ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION

Organizational Relationship or Line of Authority:

Works under the supervision of the Executive Director of Student Support Services Early Childhood Program Director and Physical Therapist Supervisor.

Job Definition:

The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) provides direct physical therapy services to students under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist (PT) in accordance with students Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The PTA works collaboratively with educational staff and families to support student participation in the school environment and promote access to the general curriculum.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver physical therapy interventions as prescribed by the supervising PT and outlined in the students IEPs.
  • Assist in the implementation of therapeutic activities to improve mobility strength coordination balance and functional independence within the school setting.
  • Document student progress and response to treatment; communiate regularly with the supervising PT regarding outcomes and adjustments to plans.
  • Collaborate with teachers occupational therapy practitioners speech and language pathology practitioners and other staff to support student access and participation.
  • Support safe positioning mobility and use of adaptive equipment throughout the school day.
  • Assist in training school personnel on safe handling transfer techniques and equipment use.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation as required by district policy Medicaid billing (when applicable) and special education regulations.
  • Participate in team meetings and professional development as required.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Associates Degree from a CAPTE accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
  • Licensure: Current Massachusetts license as a Physical Therapist Assistant issued by the Massachusetts Board of Allied Health Professions.
  • Certifications: CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
  • Experience: Prior experience in a pediatric or school based setting required.
  • Skills: Strong communication organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Working Conditions:

  • School based settings including classrooms playgrounds gymnasiums and therapy rooms.
  • May involve frequent physical activity including lifting and positioning of students.
  • Travel between buildings within the school district is required.

Terms of Employment:

  • School year calendar (182 days) with possible extended school year (ESY) assignments.
  • Salary and benefits as per district policies and negotiated collective bargaingin agreement (if applicable)
