Job Description

Do you love teaching learning caring for patients and working with wonderful clients

The Small Animal Community Practice (SACP) is looking for a prelicensed veterinary technician to join our team. We are committed to providing excellent patientfocused care in a general practice setting and teaching the next generation of veterinarians.

The job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with physical exams low stress restraint and handling.
  • Administering oral medication to patients.
  • Properly organizing laboratory samples and transport to the adjacent Animal Health Diagnostic Center for processing.
  • Completing inhouse point of care laboratory processing.
  • Assisting with room set up and breakdown for clinical procedures.
  • Providing basic animal handling for transport to centralized imaging and anesthesia services.
  • Escorting clients to consultation for appointments.
  • Assisting with discharging patients including preparation of animals escorting clients to and from exam rooms to client service and/or pharmacy ensuring a positive client experience.

Employees working in the hospital must receive the preexposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire which will be paid for by the department.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma with six months of basic animal handling experience.
  • Accepted enrolled and in good academic standing in the SUNYDelhi Online associates degree in veterinary technology.
  • Must successfully obtain Veterinary Technology degree within three years.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively in a fastpaced demanding environment handling multiple tasks with competing deadlines while paying close attention to details.
  • Able to receive instruction from LVTs and complete assignments correctly.
  • Must be able to understand common vaccination protocols basic lab tests common diseases veterinary terminology and patient behavior.
  • Must be able to successfully work within the boundaries provided by the LVT team.
  • Ability to receive and apply constructive feedback.
  • Able to meet the physical demands of the position which includes prolonged standing and kneeling lifting heavy patients. Must be able to lift and restrain animals that may exceed 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work alternative shifts including evenings weekends and holidays under the supervision of an experienced Licensed Veterinary Technician.

Important Details about the Position

  • This is an onsite position located in Ithaca NY.
  • We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship now or in the future for this position.
  • Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.

Weekly schedules may include alternative shifts weekends holidays and other coverage as CUHA provides 24hour care for patients 365 days of the year. Individuals in this role will consistently be under the supervision of an experienced Licensed Veterinary Technician.
