Position Description
Provide specialized instruction and case management for students enrolled within the Districts ILS Program. This program is specifically designed to address students learning needs with a major emphasis on intensive behavioral and academic interventions. The ILS Teacher works in collaboration with general education classroom teachers along with multiple service providers including the Districts contracted BCBAs and RBTs.
Education Qualifications and Expectations
Degree in Special Education and State of Connecticut Special Education certification (165)
Working knowledge of the coteaching and consultative models
Collaboration with classroom teachers in a coteaching and/or consultative role including lesson development delivery of differentiated instruction and analysis of student performance data
Ability to provide direct academic instruction in a resource room model through specialized instruction
Comprehensive knowledge of the Planning and Placement Team process and legal and related compliance
Conduct appropriate evaluations and assist other teams in understanding the special education eligibility process for students with or suspected of having a disability including the use of state guidelines
Collect and analyze student data to inform instruction and monitor student progress
Experience conducting Functional Behavioral Analysis and writing behavioral support plans analyzing behavioral data
Ability to initiate productive communication to address student concerns with administration team members parents and providers to foster positive home/school connections
Develop a daily/weekly schedule of instructional and noninstructional activities for each paraprofessional that supports students on your caseload always with the intent to build students independence
Become Handle with Care Trained (training provided by District in fall)
Support students with daily basic needs (i.e. toileting)
Demonstrate teacherleadership qualities to bring initiative and innovation to the special education department in the above areas.
