Job Description

General Information

Majestic mountains the rugged West Coast Trail serene lakes and one of the worlds tallest freestanding timber rail trestles all lie in the picturesque Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD). Located on Vancouver Island the CVRD provides a wide range of local government services to a population of 80000 within its 4 distinct municipalities and 9 electoral areas. Just 50 km north of Victoria and 30 km south of Nanaimo the Cowichan Valley offers a warm climate and numerous parks recreational cultural and social opportunities.

A regular full time Recycling Facility Leader V position is available in Solid Waste Operations within the Recycling and Solid Waste Management Division of the Operations Department. Reporting to the Manager Solid Waste Operations the Recycling Facility Leader V ensures the safe efficient operation of CVRD Recycling facilities including a transfer station and truck fleet coordination. This position coordinates the daily facilities operations including supervising and directing the work of staff coordinating contractor servicing requirements administering and enforcing OH&S policies and related regulatory requirements to ensure the facilities operate safely and efficiently.

Qualifications

  • Secondary School graduation or equivalency
  • Keyboarding and basic office equipment training and Microsoft Office training
  • Five (5) years of experience directing staff in a related supervisory role inclusive of conflict management
  • Two (2) years of experience: working in an industrial workplace; working with cash and other forms of payment in a professional capacity (daily reconciliations float); and using administrative and office equipment
  • Experience: dispatching drivers to achieve maximum efficiencies; and using MS Office software at a basic level (Outlook Word Excel)
  • An equivalent combination of education training and experience may be considered.
  • Valid Class 3 BC Drivers License with air endorsement
  • First Aid Level 1 with CPR
  • Skid Steer Operator Safety Training certificate from a qualified instructor employer provided
  • Front End Loader Operator Safety Training certificate from a qualified instructor employer provided
  • Excavator Operator Safety Training certificate from a qualified instructor employer provided
  • Traffic Control Person Training employer provided
  • WHMIS employer provided
