Job Description

JOB TITLE:SpeechLanguage Pathologist or Assistant

REPORTS TO:Speech Language Pathologist Building Principal and Special Education Director

JOB PURPOSE:Implements treatment designed by a licensed speechlanguage pathologist and/or treatment team. Aids in establishing prespeech skills in treatment sessions with clients. Charts daily behavior and case histories; prepares progress notes on assigned cases. Attends inservice meetings workshops and conferences to maintain and expand professional skills. Attends and participates in staff development programs and other professional meetings. Participates in team meetings in the absence of a speechlanguage pathologist. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

1 Bachelors Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from program ASHA approved to grant Masters SLP degrees OR Bachelors Degree in other area with a total of 21 hours in five speech/language areas (anatomy /physiology phonetics development disorders (acquired & developmental) & clinical methods) and apply for state certification OR Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology

2. Must obtain 25 hours of SLP observation; and 25 hours of SLP clinical assisting or practicum. (Hours can be provided /supervised by schoolbased SLPs with appropriate credential Board license or DESE certificate.)

Duties Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

1. Meets standards of competent teacher performance

2. Provides informal speech and language screening for referred students and those requiring followup

3. Serves as a member of multidisciplinary evaluation teams as needed

4. Participates in initial and annual IEP meetings as requested and case reviews as necessary

5. Provides direct and indirect therapy to correct treat or alleviate speech and language impairments using a variety of instruction techniques appropriate to the students needs

6. Provides services through both a speech improvement program and/or Response to Intervention (RTI) model

7. Demonstrates skill in establishing and maintaining classroom management that is conducive to learning

8. Provide services to students in the least restrictive setting (LRE)

9. Collaborates with and advises parents and educational personnel regarding appropriate intervention practice or remediation strategies

10. Communicates and works effectively with students staff parents and community members

11. Follows district policies

12. Preforms certain noninstructional duties and other duties as assigned

Language Skills:Ability to read analyze and interpret general educational periodicals professional journals technical procedures and governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators staff and parents.

Other Skills and Abilities:Demonstrated ability to operate computers and related software. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
