Job Purpose

  • The facilities maintenance technician carries out skilled technical duties involving repair maintenance replacement and troubleshooting to aid in smooth operations in school buildings.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provides maintenance support to the assigned schools by work orders from the principal or maintenance office
  2. Replaces light bulbs and ballasts
  3. Changes filters on HVAC systems on routine schedule
  4. Checks fire extinguishers on monthly basis
  5. Checks and cleans off roofs and gutters
  6. Installs bulletin boards dry erase boards etc.
  7. Maintains bathroom fixtures and plumbing
  8. Performs light carpentry lock electrical and plumbing repairs
  9. Repairs desks chairs and other furniture and equipment as necessary
  10. Replaces glass in windows and doors as needed
  11. Performs minor repairs to school equipment
  12. Performs repairs to roofs gutters and drains
  13. Performs small repairs to drywall
  14. Replaces floor tile(s)
  15. Checks and replaces belts on equipment as needed
  16. Oils and greases pumps and motors as needed
  17. Responds to after hour emergencies as requested
  18. Provides assistance to paint crew and carpentry crew during summer months
  19. Performs related tasks as needed in all maintenance areas
  20. Under sink grease trap maintenance
  21. Assists with operation of sewer drain equipment
  22. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications

  • Graduation from High School or equivalent
  • Carpentry experience preferred
  • Experience in one or more of the trades common to building maintenance
  • Valid North Carolina Drivers License

Physical Requirements

The major physical and cognitive requirements listed below are applicable to this job classification within Person County Schools.

Work in this classification is considered heavy physical work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.

  • walk lift reach stoop crawl stand grasp balance and climb to heights of 100 feet
  • ability to enter and work in crawl spaces
  • work in various inside and outside environments being subjected to

weather changes noise vibrations job hazards and atmospheric conditions

  • use visual acuity required it for depth perception and color perception
  • visually inspect small defects and/or small parts
  • use a variety of measuring devices
  • assemble or fabricate parts at or within arms length
  • operate machines motor vehicles hand tools and job specific equipment
    and tools
  • determine the accuracy and thoroughness of work
  • observe general surroundings and activities
  • hear sufficiently to accurately perceive information at normally spoken
    word levels
  • use communication by means of spoken word to express or exchange ideas
  • safely work in situations of exposure to bloodborne pathogens which may

require specialized personal protective equipment
