Position:Academic Specialist Reading
Location: Central Office and Assigned Elementary Schools (PreK3 Focus)
Reports to:Executive Director of Elementary Leadership
Length of Employment: 210 Days
Salary: As per Berkeley County pay schedule based on degree level and years of experiencewith coordinator index.
Qualifications:
- Preferred Masters Degree in Education Reading Literacy or related field from an accredited institution
- Valid West Virginia Teaching Certification (PreK5) with endorsements in Reading preferred
- Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience at the primary level
- Demonstrated expertise in early literacy foundational skills and writing instruction
- Experience with core curriculum programs such as UFLI Heggerty Being a Writer Scholastic Magnetic Reading and iReady
- Knowledge of the Science of Reading and evidencebased literacy practices
- LETRS knowledge and taking courses
- Strong understanding of early Social Studies instruction and integration with literacy
- Knowledge of the West Virginia College and CareerReadiness Standards for ELA and Social Studies
- Ability to analyze student data and use it to drive instruction
- Demonstrated ability to model lessons and instructional strategies in classrooms
- Experience supporting curriculum implementation textbook adoption and professional development
- Effective coaching collaboration and communication skills
- Experience supporting PLCs and leading datainformed instruction
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct support to PreK3 teachers in implementing districtadopted reading writing and social studies curriculum
- Model effective literacy and social studies instruction in classrooms across all grade levels (PreK3)
- Train ECCATs and teachers on curriculum materials and instructional best practices
- Collaborate with principals and school leaders to improve instruction and increase student achievement
- Support ECCATs and teachers through coaching modeling and ongoing jobembedded training
- Assist in the analysis and use of diagnostic data including iReady assessments to inform instruction
- Support and facilitate highfunctioning PLCs focused on data use instructional planning and student outcomes
- Provide targeted coaching and support in foundational skills writing development and contentarea literacy
- Assist with the planning coordination and implementation of the Social Studies Fair at the school and county level
- Support implementation of social studies and ELA standards and best practices across primary grades
- Assist in the county textbook adoption process including review training and implementation support
- Plan and provide schoolbased and countywide professional development aligned to district and state expectations
- Stay informed about current research and best practices in literacy social studies and instructional strategies
- Maintain records and documentation of support provided to schools and staff
- Travel between schools to provide consistent equitable support
- Support and help organize Steps to Success Summer Learning
- Schedule and complete kindergarten early entrance testing and send out notifications
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Elementary Leadership
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties the employee is regularly required to sit stand walk talk hear and use hands. Occasionally may lift up to 50 lbs (e.g. boxes of materials). Vision requirements include close and distance vision the ability to read and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
Work is performed in elementary schools and the central office. The noise level is moderate. Travel between school sites is required.
Evaluation:
Performance is evaluated by the Executive Director of Elementary Leadership and may be documented in the employees personnel file.

Unclear Seniority
