Knowledge Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:
- Working knowledge of standard road maintenance and construction procedures
- Knowledge of Work Zone Safety & NCDOT Workplace Safety policy and practices
- Experience in at least two pieces of Category B Maintenance equipment (asphalt distributor asphalt mixer asphalt patcher crack sealing machine ditching machine force feed loader front end loader lube truck asphalt maintainer post driver skid steer street sweeper tandem dump truck tractor A boom mower truck w/aerial device)
- Experience in one of the following: shoulder and ditch maintenance pipe installation or asphalt patching.
- Experience performing snow and ice removal operations.
AdditionalExpectations:
A valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Drivers License with Tanker (N) endorsement is required for this position. Either possession of a current Commercial Drivers License on the date of hire OR the North Carolina Commercial Drivers License must be obtained through completion of onthejob training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire. Preemployment drug testing is required for this position. As a condition of employment a release form (ALCDRG01) and a background statement (ALCDRG06) must be signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol testing. Work involves visual acuity bending walking and standing on uneven terrain and the ability to safely and repeatedly lift and carry up to 80 lbs. Safety toe footwear is needed.
This position will be responsible for transporting inmates for work detail. An inmate card approved by the NC Department of Public Safety must be issued to NCDOT employees to transport inmates. In order to obtain an inmate card applicants must undergo a criminal history check complete necessary training and orientation and be at least 21 years of age.

High school or General Educational Development diploma and three years of experience operating equipment directly related to the field of specialization; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
