The American Red Cross is hiring 8 parttime Summer Camp Counselors in Philadelphia. The positions are temporary running 6 weeks at 20 hours per week. No benefits offered.
MUST be 18 years of age. MUST have a current drivers license and be willing to drive.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
The Summer Camp Counselor position supports the Youth Disaster Preparedness Program within the Southeastern Pennsylvania Disaster Cycle Services Region. Counselors deliver disaster preparedness education to Philadelphia Parks and Recreation youth summer camp locations July 14 August 15 from 9am 1pm Monday Friday within the City of Philadelphia. Counselors participate in a oneweek onboarding training July 7 11 from 8:30am 5pm. Counselors will drive Red Cross fleet vehicles to travel to camp locations. Counselors need to pass a child protective services background check along with a good driver record as reported by the Division of Motor Vehicles.
The Save a Life Summer Camp Program saves lives and prevents injury by providing instruction for Disaster Cycle Services youth curriculum supporting thePrepare with Pedro Be Red Cross Readyand Hands Only CPRprograms.
Prepare with Pedrois a 3045minute presentation that provides home fire safety and preparedness education to youth ages 48 in camp settings by following Pedro the Penguin as he learns how to be prepared and take action before during and after an emergency.
The Be Red Cross Readyprogram is a 3045minute presentation that provides home fire safety and local hazards emergency preparedness education to youth ages 912 in camp settings educating on how to be prepared and take action before during and after an emergency.
The Hands Only CPRprogram is a 15 25minute presentation that teaches youth ages 912how to check for consciousness call 911 and give continuous chest compressions instructing bystanders how to deliver lifesaving care until professional responders arrive.
Utilization of tools for this program includes a standardized curriculum workbook quizzes and activities that have been constructed with the help of curriculum and hazard experts. Presenter tools are used to foster consistency and fidelity to the programs goals and objectives. The highly interactive presentations address home fire safety local natural hazards psychosocial coping skills and household preparedness steps.
Team member roles rotate daily across a team of three to four members to include being a driver presenter presentation assistant and administrative support.

Team Member Responsibilities:
Attend mandatory trainings during oneweek onboarding period July 7 11 daily 8:30 5pm.
Coordinate with team members regarding timely arrival at camp locations each day.
Conduct Prepare with Pedro Be Red Cross Ready and Hands Only CPR presentations for youth at summer camp settings.
Utilize physical and audiovisual program materials to deliver engaging presentations.
Work with individual students during activities.
Organize and distribute program support materials to students.
Assist with classroom management.
Ensure all reporting data for each presentation given is completed and given to regional staff in a timely manner.
Assist with other duties as assigned by the regional staff and volunteer program leads.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:
Education: High School or equivalent required.
Experience: Working with youth and delivering educational presentations is preferred. Will train disaster specific knowledge required for program delivery.
Skills & Abilities: Basic computer interpersonal verbal and written communications skills. Work well with to work on a team.
Travel: daily travel is required throughout the City of Philadelphia. A current valid drivers license with good driving record isrequired.
Physical Requirements:
Regularly required to use hands to finger handle or feel reach with hands and arms and talk or lift and/or move objects 1050 required to stand walk stoop kneel crouch or required to sit and climb or work environment will consist of moderate noise.
