Job Description

As our BCBA you will thrive in our collaborative supportive and gratifying Deafblind program. Experience working in a school where students needs come first and your contributions have a global impact. The Behavior Analyst is responsible for the development and maintenance of high quality behavioral support programming across the Deafblind Program both in the school and residential settings for individual students who have impacted vision and hearing with additional disabilities. You will develop and implement behavior intervention programs for individual students and/or classrooms. You will provide ongoing consultation to program staff regarding the maintenance and refinement of behavior management programs and developmental issues.; communicate with families and outside agencies effectively. You will provide functional assessment to identify the function of targeted behaviors and to facilitate the development of effective interventions as mandated by IDEA. You will also support and participate in collaborative Individualized Education Plan (IEP) development for all students.

Essential Duties Responsibilities and Expectations include the following:

  • It is expected that the Behavior Analyst will acquire knowledge and apply it to their practice as it relates to the unique impact of vision and hearing impairment on development including communication and associated behavior.

  • Complete SafetyCare Crisis Prevention Training as facilitated by Perkins School for the Blind and to assist in training the trainer model as requested.

  • Uses evidence based and empirically validated strategies to teach and support student behavior.

  • Conducts functional behavior assessment to identify the function of targeted behaviors and facilitate the development of appropriate replacement behaviors.

  • Writes and monitors the effectiveness of Positive Behavior Support plans.

  • Provide support instruction and feedback to staff families and caregivers with regard to managing challenging behavior and teaching replacement behaviors.

  • Participates in the development and use of efficient data systems that support visual analysis and inform clinical decisions.

  • Leads training as requested on a variety of topics within the field of Applied Behavior Analysis.

  • Prepares and implements behavior plans based on the individual education plan.

  • Develops positive reinforcement systems to teach new and more adaptive behavior.

  • Reviews individual students behavior intervention programs and provides consultation to staff members

  • Meets on a routine basis with the clinical educational and medical teams. Collects data on student behavior to share with the medical team especially with regard to psychoactive medications.

  • Observes students in both individual and group settings.

  • Offers consultation to staff members regarding student behavior intervention programs; Develops data systems or other monitoring techniques and maintains an uptodate record of student progress; Informs students staff members and families of the criteria for achieving individual goals and objectives.

  • Reviews behavior intervention plans and modifies them as needed to adapt to changing conditions and to promote student progress. Present and review these plans with the team. Offers timely feedback to students and staff members regarding student progress toward achieving individual behavioral objectives.

  • Performs assessments as requested; Develops or adapts measurement instruments functional scales or questionnaires for use with individuals who are blind visually impaired Deafblind or multiply impaired.

  • Selects potential areas of priorities based on the results of a needs assessment.

  • Potential to conduct supervision of BCBA candidates in their practicum.

  • To perform other duties and tasks as assigned by their direct supervisor and/or the Education Director.

Education and Experience

  • Masters degree in applied behavior analysis or related field

  • Current board certification (BCBA) and Massachusetts licensure(LABA)

  • One year experience as a BCBA in an educational setting

  • Experience working with individuals who engage in unsafe behavior
