In this role you will sit with the ALX SIERRAs engineering organization and work with Data Engineers Software developer engineers UX designers business intelligence engineers and data scientists. You will be responsible to design and build data products and services at scale to have a significant impact on 1.5 million Amazonians and the communities Amazon serves.
As a Data Engineer you should be an expert with data lake fundamentals around storage compute etc. familiar with multiple data processing stacks like Spark EMR and core data concepts (e.g. Data Modeling and Reporting). You should have deep understanding of the architecture for enterprise level data lake/mesh solutions using NAWS stack or other cloud stacks. You should be an expert in the design creation management and business use of large datasets. The candidate is expected to be able to build efficient flexible extensible and scalable ETL and reporting solutions. You should be enthusiastic about learning new technologies and be able to implement solutions using them to provide new functionality to the users or to scale the existing platform. Our ideal candidate thrives in a fastpaced environment relishes working with large transactional volumes and big data enjoys the challenge of highly complex business contexts (that are typically being defined in realtime) and above all is a passionate about data and analytics.
Key job responsibilities
Design implement and support a platform providing secured access to large datasets.
Architect develop and maintain end to end scalable data infrastructure and data pipelines.
Interface with other technology teams to extract transform and load data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL scripting and AWS big data technologies.
Designing and implementing complex ETL pipelines and other BI solutions.
Work closely with business owners developers Business Intelligence Engineers to explore new data sources and deliver the data.
Keep up to date with advances in big data technologies and run pilots to design the data architecture to scale with the increased data volume using AWS.
Empower the team for selfservicing by providing the necessary skills to handle complex tasks independently. Ensure that the team can efficiently manage and troubleshoot datarelated issues leading to increased autonomy and productivity. along with fostering a culture of selfreliance.

Amazon Leadership eXperience (ALX) SIERRA (Science Insights Experience Research Reporting & Analytics) is a horizontal multidisciplinary organization whose mission is to be a force multiplier for the broader ALX organization and our key customer cohorts. We accomplish this by using our expertise in data analytics and science economics machine learning (ML) UX I/O psychology and engineering to build insights and experiences that raise the bar in understanding and shaping decision making at scale by integrating within and across talent journeys as well as through selfservice tools and closed loop mechanisms outside of those journeys. Our portfolio of products spans foundational data sources metrics and research through to finished features and products that our endcustomers interact with on a daily basis.
3 years of data engineering experience
Experience with data modeling warehousing and building ETL pipelines
Experience with SQL
Experience with one or more query language (e.g. SQL PL/SQL DDL MDX HiveQL SparkSQL Scala)
Experience with one or more scripting language (e.g. Python KornShell)
Experience with big data technologies such as: Hadoop Hive Spark EMR
Experience with any ETL tool like Informatica ODI SSIS BODI Datastage etc.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $91200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on jobrelated knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered equity signon payments and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package in addition to a full range of medical financial and/or other benefits.
