Job Description:

The Acquisitions Assistant is a detailoriented and highly organized member of a dynamic publishing team. Reporting to the Editor in Chief (EIC) this role plays a vital part in the book acquisition and editorial process supporting both the EIC and one acquisitions editor.

The Acquisitions Assistant coordinates with authors to ensure manuscripts meet press guidelines and policies; prepares manuscripts materials including text and illustrations for transmittal to the Editing Design and Production team; manages documentation through each publishing stage; and maintains accurate project and author records in the Press database. The Acquisitions Assistant helps the Acquisitions team publish approximately 70 new titles annuallybooks that reflect the Presss longstanding reputation for excellence.

Success in this role requires strong time management adaptability attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively in a fastpaced deadlinedriven environment.

Editorial Support

  • Maintains accurate and uptodate project records schedules and entries in the Presswide database;
  • Drafts organizes and files correspondence contracts and other documents related to publishing decisions;
  • Assists acquisitions editors in researching identifying and securing peer reviewers for manuscripts;
  • Coordinates all aspects of the peer review process including managing reviewer timelines and processing submitted peer reports;
  • Prepares comprehensive project packets before review at the quarterly Faculty Editorial Board Meeting;

Manuscript Preparation for Editing Design and Production

  • Collaborates with authors and acquisitions staff to prepare final manuscripts images and supporting materials for transmittal to Editing Design and Production;
  • Reviews manuscript content for permissions compliance working with authors and editors to secure necessary rights;
  • Communicates with authors to resolve any outstanding issues and ensure submission of complete and accurate materials;
  • Completes and submits transmittal forms for projects moving into Editing Design and Production.

Departmental Support

  • Updates departmental templates forms and standard procedures as needed;
  • Provides administrative assistance to the EIC including taking notes at meetings and supporting departmentwide initiatives.
Expected Salary:

$15.00 $16.00 per hour

Required Qualifications:

Formal education should include a bachelors degree in a related field and a minimum of one year of related professional experience. Skills include familiarity with Microsoft Office applications. Preferred:

Formal education should include at least a bachelors degree and one year of book publishing experience. Inperson preferred but remote applicants will be considered.
