You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThis Senior Engineering Technician positions primary responsibility will be to perform and manage special projects related to civil engineering and land use planning in support of Greshams Development Engineering group. This position reports to the Infrastructure Development Manager and works most closely with that group of 14 people. Within that group are Public Works Inspectors Land Surveyors Development Engineering Specialists and Civil Engineers. While this groups responsibilities include both indoor and outdoor work this position will work almost exclusively in an office setting.
This is a parttime position consisting of 10 hours per week and will require 50% of time to be spent on site and the remaining 50% remote.As Oregons fourthlargest city Gresham is a welcoming community of hardworking people where tradition and heritage meet innovation and opportunity. This position primarily works on special projects. As questions come up about the Citys Public Works Standards from internal staff or from private developers building infrastructure in our City there is often a need to research practices perform studies and evaluate alternatives. The person in this position is responsible for doing that work and determining solutions.
Some examples of the special projects which have been done in the past include:
An analysis of streetlight spacing for adequate light coverage
Minimum allowable pipe slopes for wastewater pipes
Methods of stormwater energy dissipation at pipe outfalls
An analysis of potable water demand at residential units to evaluate the efficacy of Appendix A compared to Appendix M of Oregons Plumbing Code.
Knowledge of:
Practicesprinciples andtechniques of engineering surveying mapping and/or development
Principles and practices of project management
Data gathering analysis and research; specification writing;cost estimating
Techniques for effectively representing theCitywith government agencies community groups and various business professional regulatory and legislative organizations
Techniques for providing a high level of customer service to the public and City staff
Communication principles practices and techniques
Modern office practices and methods computer equipment and software applications
Ability to:
Understand and interpretengineering plansspecifications and other technical documents
Analyze problems identify alternative solutions assess consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations
Perform mechanical drawing surveying and related computations
Analyze and interpret data;draw valid conclusions; develop reports
Design overseeand manage projects
Coordination of others
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all internal and external contacts
Operate a variety of electronic surveying automated drafting and mapping equipment
Operate office equipment and technology tools including personal computers laptop computers and printers and presentation equipment
Communicate effectively verbally and inwriting;present information proposals and recommendations clearly and persuasively
Minimum Qualifications:
Associates degree
Three (3) to Six (6) years of progressively related experience.
Any combination of of qualifying education training and/or experience equivalent to Five (5) to Eight (8) years will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelors degree in engineering;
Fundamentals of Engineering certification by the State of Oregon
Professional Engineering certification from the State of Oregon
