Big Brown House (BBH) is a communitybased organisation focused on providing holistic family support and child protection. As a provider of choice across NSW Big Brown House supports Children and Young People in the community with Emergency Care Support Services Foster Care and Respite.

Big Brown House is an accredited Out of Home Care Provider providing a range of services to support safe stable and nurturing homes for children and young people who are vulnerable so they can reach their full potential.

We are currently seeking a Team Leader on a fulltime basis. The Team Leader will work across the Hunter Region to provide leadership coaching and mentoring to a team of Therapeutic Support Workers (TSW) and support children and young people to achieve positive outcomes and individual goals. The Team Leader will be required to travel across Newcastle and the Maitland Region.

About the role

  • Manage a caseload of children and young people (CYP)
  • Coordinate a team of TSWs while overseeing the delivery of therapeutic services to families children and young people (CYP).
  • Maintain a safe and supportive working environment that models Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) principles.
  • Provide positive role modelling and practical assistance to develop life skills aiming to promote healthy lifestyle choices for children and young people.
  • Coordinate the documentation reporting and record keeping for assigned placement/s in a factual professional and timely manner.
  • Display appropriate empathy and build effective relationships with CYP and their families while always maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Manage CYP issues and complaints with respect and fairness and within BBHs policies and procedures.
  • Provide support mentoring supervision and leadership to TSWs.
  • Work with the Program Manager to ensure programs are implemented and monitored individual to the clients needs and operate within legislative and funding requirements.
  • Undertake and meet all case management responsibilities in relation to individual CYP in line with OCG Standards and legislative requirements.
  • Ensure that case plans are regularly reviewed and facilitate the attendance of all key stakeholders at relevant meetings including case conferences and reviews
  • Participate in oncall roster as set by the Program Manager.
  • Support children and young people in Newcastle Maitland and Muswellbrook (must be willing to travel).

What do you need

  • Completed or working towards a relevant industry qualification (or relevant experience).
  • Experience in a similar role and or the ability to lead supervise and support staff.
  • Current paid NSW Working with Children Check.
  • Clear and Current National Criminal History Check.
  • Current First Aid Certificate.
  • Current unrestricted Australians Drivers Licence and comprehensively insured care.
  • Ability to work as a team and communicate effectively with all stakeholders.
