The Opportunity
Were hiring 2 temporary salaried instructors for the Carpentry Apprenticeship!
The Wood Trades Team delivers training for students in Carpenter Apprenticeship. This is made up of 4 years of Jobsite training and study. The technical training portions are eight weeks in length running 5 times per year and take place at SAIT Main Campus.
As an instructor you will create a supportive and innovative learning environment utilizing existing curriculum resources and various instructional techniques to promote learning and personal development. In addition to creating teaching and learning plans course maps and assessments you will provide ongoing support and guidance to learners evaluate student progress and achievement and participate in promotional activities such as SAITs Open House.
The Role
- Prepare and present schedules lesson plans lectures assignments evaluations and learning activities
- Know understand apply and relate to students the essential facts concepts procedures and principles in areas of expertise designated by the curriculum using a variety of instructional techniques which promote learning and personal development
- Prepare cabinetmaking shop materials for learners
- Evaluate student progress and achievement
- Maintain and develop relationships with academic colleagues
- Provide ongoing support guidance and advice to learners
Qualifications & Experience
- Have a minimum Alberta Journeyperson Certificate and Red Seal in Carpentry
- Ideally have a minimum of five years experience as a Carpentry Journeyperson in a variety of commercial and/or residential environments
- Possess excellent communication and organizational skills
- Have the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Be committed to ethical behaviour
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and presentation software
- Prior teaching or training experience in adult education is an asset
