About this Job


This position is located in the Acadiana Area Human Services District New Iberia Behavioral Health Clinic.


This vacancy is being announced as a classified position and may be filled as a probational or job appointment that may last up to 48 months. Job appointments may convert to a probational appointments.


This incumbent provides specialized nursing treatment and care to behavioral health outpatient individuals in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act AAHSD policies and procedures Stat Civil Service LDH (as applicable) licensing standards CCBHC guidelines and criteria and CARF accreditation standards. Performs individualized direct care to individuals served that requires training and competence as well as good clinical judgment necessary to assess plan and implement appropriate nursing interventions as needed. The incumbent reports to the Mental Health Center Manager B.


NOTE REGARDING THE ADVERTISED PAY:


This position participates in a Career Progression Group (CPG) and may be filled as a Practical Nurse Licensed 1 2 or 3. The level at which the vacancy is filled will be determined by the qualifications of the candidate selected. This position provides the opportunity to advance within this job series.

The actual starting salary depends on the education and experience of the selected applicant.

Minimum Qualifications

Job Specification

Function of Work:
To provide basic nursing care to patients/clients in stable conditions and in predictable situations in accordance with the Professional Nurses Practice Act.

Level of Work:
Entry.

Supervision Received:
Close from a Registered Nurse or Practical Nurse of a higher level.

Supervision Exercised:
May exercise functional supervision over paraprofessional nursing personnel.

Location of Work:
Statewidehealth care facilities; correctional facilities.

Job Distinctions:
Differs from Practical NurseLicensed 2 by the absence of journeyman level assignments and independent performance of duties.

Job Duties and Other Information

Implements selective aspects of the nursing care plan i.e. comfort hygiene safety measures nutrition etc. under progressively more generalized supervision from a Registered Nurse or Practical Nurse of a higher level.

Observes patients for changes in physical and/or mental status or behavior and reports significant changes.

Obtains specimens for laboratory testing as assigned.

Takes vital signs including temperature pulse respiration and blood pressure.

Administers medication and treatments in accordance with policies and procedures.

Transcribes physicians orders and records medication and patients condition on patients charts and other records.

Receives and gives change of shift reports.

Requests stock drugs medications and supplies as assigned.

Administers CPR in emergency situations.

Admits transfers and discharges patients.

Gathers information about patients past and current physical and mental status.

May administer oral and parenteral medication as prescribed by the physician and documents procedure.

Applies dressings ointments and other treatments as ordered and documents procedure.

Assists physicians with routine examinations and treatments.

Bathes feeds and makes patients comfortable.

Performs individual and group health teaching as assigned.
