Inventory Buyer FullTime Exempt
Summary:
The Inventory Buyer is responsible for ensuring optimal inventory levels to meet customer and operational needs by placing and managing stock replenishment orders. This role also involves coordinating with vendors to resolve issues such as cost changes delayed or short shipments invoice discrepancies and product returns. The buyer will play a critical role in maintaining efficient inventory minimizing costs and fostering strong vendor relationships.
The Inventory Buyer will also develop a comprehensive publications strategy focused on George Washington his family Mount Vernon his business and farming ventures military and political careers contemporaries and 18thcentury history related to Washington D.C. Alexandria and Virginia. Key responsibilities also include coordinating with internal departments to support book signings and special events. Compensation: $55000$65000
Essential Functions: - Stay current on publications related to Mount Vernons mission; share updates and promotions with staff.
- Create and manage book merchandising plans with input from the Library other departments and event calendars.
- Monitor inventory levels; issue purchase orders based on trends forecasts and stock requirements.
- Track open orders; resolve delays and discrepancies promptly.
- Collaborate with vendors to address pricing shipping invoicing and quality issues.
- Analyze turnover; adjust ordering to minimize excess and avoid stockouts.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records in inventory systems.
- Provide regular reports on inventory vendor performance and purchasing metrics.
- Work with the warehouse on deliveries and product quality.
- Coordinate with the Office Manager and Finance to ensure timely invoice processing.
- Manage logistics signage and merchandising for special retail events as needed.
- Assist with annual physical inventory for Retail Shops.
Qualifications: - Minimum of 34 years of experience in inventory management procurement or a similar buying role.
- Experience with publications is a plus.
- Strong Excel skills and a familiarity with inventory systems such as Counter Point Shopify or Lightspeed are a plus.
- Strong analytical and problemsolving skills.
- Resultsdriven with a focus on achieving targets and deadlines.
- Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
- Proven ability to multitask and manage diverse responsibilities within a fastpaced environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work well with others teamoriented with strong interpersonal skills.
- Must be dependable reliable punctual and trustworthy.
