Job Description

Retail Shops Manager
FullTime Exempt


Summary:
The Shops at Mount Vernon Manager is a dynamic leadership role responsible for driving operational excellence fostering a culture of teamwork and ensuring clear and effective communication at all levels. This position oversees daily retail operations with a focus on strategic merchandising inventory control and operational efficiency. As a visible and engaged leader the Manager sets the standard for customer service models best practices and mentors staff to achieve both individual and team success.
This position reports directly to the Director of Retail and manages two distinct locations: the main Shop which operates as two separate retail spaces and a seasonal satellite location open on weekends from April through October. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership acumen problemsolving abilities and a proactive approach to managing people and processes in a fastpaced missiondriven environment.

Compensation:
$65000$75000 commensurate with experience
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead by example to foster a positive inclusive and collaborative team environment.
  • Motivate coach and develop team members to achieve goals and support professional growth.
  • Provide clear consistent communication of expectations feedback and recognition.
  • Ensure alignment with Mount Vernons mission values and guest experience standards.
  • Effectively manage staff scheduling timekeeping and daily task assignments.
  • Conduct regular team meetings to communicate goals operational updates and foster open dialogue.
Operational Excellence
  • Oversee daily retail operations across two locations ensuring seamless execution of sales merchandising and customer service.
  • Maintain visual merchandising standards that reflect the brand and maximize sales potential.
  • Implement and monitor best practices for inventory management stock replenishment and shrink control.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Retail to analyze sales data and identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with all operational policies safety protocols and loss prevention strategies.
Customer Experience
  • Champion a superior guest experience by modeling exemplary service and addressing customer concerns with professionalism.
  • Train staff in best practices for customer engagement product knowledge and upselling techniques.
  • Continuously seek feedback to enhance the shopping experience and adapt strategies accordingly.
Seasonal & Special Operations
  • Manage operations of a secondary seasonal location open on weekends from April through October.
  • Plan and execute staffing inventory and merchandising strategies tailored to seasonal demands.
  • Ensure consistent brand representation and service standards across all retail locations.
ProblemSolving & Continuous Improvement
  • Proactively identify challenges and implement effective solutions to improve operations and team dynamics.
  • Stay informed of industry trends and best practices to continuously elevate store performance.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement encouraging team input and innovation.
Qualifications:
  • Strong retail background required with minimum 58 years retail management experience.
  • Experience in museum or attraction retail is a plus.
  • Excellent customer service skills and an outgoing friendly positive demeanor.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong computer and analytical skills.
  • Must be responsible flexible punctual and able to work well under pressure.
  • Must be able to stand/walk for long periods.
  • Must work one weekend day with some special events on evenings and holidays. The Retail Shops are open 364 days a year and are only closed for Christmas Day.
