Purpose of Position
We are seeking parttime employees to fill the role of Research Assistant in the Space Studies department at the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Science
Duties & Responsibilities
- The Research Assistant will support our satellite system satellite ground station and highaltitude ballooning projects by engaging in associated engineering design development testing and operations activities. Under the supervision of a faculty member conducting the research project the position is responsible for assisting in a variety of administrative and nonadministrative tasks which may include:
- Managing research efforts
- Preparing resources and materials for engineering design development testing and operations
- Conducting hardware and software tests
- Conducting spacecraft and highaltitude balloon operational activities
- Documenting results
- And other tasks in support of satellite system satellite ground station and highaltitude ballooning project activities.
Required Competencies
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a team setting and independently.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Aerospace Engineering Electrical Engineering Mechanical Engineering Physics Mathematics or similar areas of study.
- Experience with satellite systems satellite ground stations and/or highaltitude ballooning including practical experience working with these systems.
- Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing satellite system satellite ground station and/or highaltitude ballooning activities.
- Experience supervising and mentoring undergraduate students in satellite system satellite ground station and/or highaltitude ballooning activities.
