The Fairbanks Civil Division of the Alaska Court System (ACS) is seeking a highly dependable individual to become a Court Case Manager 1 (salary range 10). The successful applicant will provide customer service and case management of civil small claims marriage licenses and appeals cases.

This Position

This position is responsible for managing cases from the initial opening through final closing distributing signed orders and judgements determining appropriate action for civil small claims and appeals documents filed with the court ensuring that proper paperwork involving divorces dissolutions and name changes is distributed correctly to nonparties and entering or updating motion tracking as directed.

The incumbent is also responsible for serving the public while balancing many other duty assignments. You will provide exemplary customer service to court patrons within the standards of the Alaska Court System assist customers (pro se litigants attorneys and other agencies) at the public service counter and by phone and provide information on court cases forms procedures and records without giving legal advice.

You will also review new cases for filing review pleadings for compliance with court rules enter case information and docket entries in CourtView process marriage licenses and marriage commissioner applications assist customers with retrieving copies from scanned microfilmed and microfiche archive records and manage individual cash drawer.

Additionally you will read orders enter/update tickle or calendaring dates schedule small claims trials and hearings judgment debtor exams claim of exemption hearings etc. You will draft small claims judgments for the judicial officers signature follow CourtView instructions for all data entry and docketing requirements process orders for consolidation of cases or change of venue prepare monthly vital statistics reports and assist the Regional Appeals Clerk in preparation and transmittal of records on appeal to the Alaska Supreme Court and Court of Appeals.

An ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge skills and abilities. Each of the following should be addressed in the required cover letter.

  2. Ability to handle situations that may be graphic in nature in a neutral manner.
  3. Experience handling stressful situations with tact and diplomacy.
  4. Ability to uphold and follow rules and procedures regarding use and disclosure of confidential information.
  5. Experience dealing with highpriority or sensitive information.
  6. Experience or knowledge of legal procedures.
  7. Ability to perform multiple tasks with frequent interruptions and remaining calm organized and accurate.
  8. Proficiency in the use of MS Word Excel and Outlook.

The Fairbanks Trial Court is located in the beautiful Rabinowitz Courthouse at 101 Lacey Street in Downtown Fairbanks. Our building is located next to Golden Heart Plaza the Alaska Siberia World War II Memorial several bike paths and the Chena River. The Work Hours

This position is scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. The work hours for this position are Monday Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a onehour lunch break.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of office clerical experience.

Substitution:

Additional office clerical work experience will substitute for the high school diploma or GED certificate on a monthformonth basis.

Completion of 36 semester credit hours or 48 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college will substitute for the year of required office clerical experience.

Completion of an appropriate vocational training course of study such as legal secretary paralegal or office skills will substitute for the required office clerical experience on a monthformonth basis.

SELECTION PROCEDURE
Applicants will be required to meet the Minimum Qualifications as outlined above. Unfortunately we cannot always interview all applicants.
