Job Description

We are hiring a Head of Legal for our client in the energy space. He/she will be a strategic legal advisor for our client’s Singapore Business Unit to oversee legal compliance and risk management contributing to strategic decisions that support business objectives while safeguarding the organization’s legal and ethical integriy.

Additionally the role will support litigation strategy including preparing defenses assisting during court proceedings and advising on whether to proceed with trial or pursue settlement.

Responsibilities

1. Legal Advice and Risk Management

  • Provide timely pragmatic and solutionoriented legal advice to Singapore Business Unit across all business functions.

  • Act as a trusted legal business partner to senior management supporting commercial strategy and operational decisions.

  • Identify assess and mitigate legal risks ensuring the organization’s interests are protected.

2. Legislation Compliance & Corporate Governance

  • Monitor relevant legal and regulatory developments and lead implementation of necessary changes across Singapore and JV entities.

  • Promote strong governance by ensuring compliance with corporate regulatory and internal policies.

  • Support investigations and compliance reviews involving breaches of law or internal codes (e.g. sanctions bribery competition law).

3. Contracting and Negotiation

  • Draft review and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts and legal documents including storage EPC JVs M&A leases IT and procurement agreements.

  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders (e.g. commercial tax HR SHE finance) to achieve favorable legal outcomes aligned with business needs.

4. Strategic Projects: M&A Investments Structuring

  • Provide legal support for projects involving mergers acquisitions joint ventures divestments and restructurings.

  • Lead legal due diligence risk assessment transaction structuring and postclosing activities to ensure alignment with global and local requirements.

5. Dispute Resolution and Claims Management

  • Manage all legal disputes including litigation mediation and arbitration particularly in relation to customers labor matters and operational incidents.

  • Handle compliancerelated investigations and support incident responses in collaboration with insurance external counsel and loss adjusters.

6. Training Knowledge Management & External Counsel

  • Conduct internal legal and compliance training programs (e.g. Code of Conduct antitrust directors’ duties).

  • Maintain legal templates and the legal portal for the AME region.

  • Select manage and coordinate external counsel ensuring costeffective and highquality legal representation.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 8–10 years of postqualification experience preferably with inhouse legal experience in a multinational company.

  • LLB from a recognized university and admitted to the Singapore Bar or a common law jurisdiction.

  • Broad legal expertise in corporate commercial regulatory and contract law.

  • Strong understanding of compliance dispute resolution shipping procurement construction (EPC) and project finance.

  • Excellent drafting negotiation and communication skills.

  • Strategic thinker with commercial acumen and a pragmatic solutionsoriented approach.

  • Strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills; able to work across functions and cultures.

  • Agile proactive and capable of handling multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

  • Willingness to travel.
