Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

  • Location: Denver CO
  • Reports to: Summer Camp Director
  • Work Schedule: Approximately 57 hours of work during the precamp phase (AprilMay) 163 hours during camp (JuneJuly) and 57 hours postcamp (late July).
  • Compensation: $1920 per hour depending on experience
  • Status: Temporary
  • Work Model: Inperson

About the Sheridan Inspire Initiative
Sheridan Inspire is funded by Great Outdoors Colorado with the goal of connecting youth and their families with the outdoors. The initiative includes creating outdoor spaces activating those spaces with programs and building pathways to outdoor stewardship jobs and leadership roles. In partnership with the Sheridan School District elected officials city agencies and the City of Sheridan over $3.5 million has been awarded to support programs for local families and youth. The Sheridan Inspire Initiative which includes thirteen community partners offers youth jobs volunteer opportunities familycentered activities and outdoor experiences.

Position Summary
The Summer Day Camp Helper is a seasonal member of the Groundwork Denver team and Sheridan Inspire supporting general operations of a summer camp program designed for up to 24 children ages 612. The program is delivered in partnership with South Suburban Parks and Recreation. The position includes approximately 57 hours of work during the precamp phase (AprilMay) 163 hours during camp (JuneJuly) and 57 hours postcamp (late July). The Summer Camp Counselor reports to the Summer Camp Director.
General Duties
Personnel
  • Participate in weekly checkin meetings with the director during the camp season
  • Provide guidance and support to fellow camp guides and volunteers
Management & Administration
  • Assist with managing the daily and weekly camp schedule
  • Help distribute promotional materials (brochures posters announcements etc.)
  • Collect and organize photos for website and social media updates
  • Communicate effectively with campers parents staff and volunteers
  • Assist South Suburban Parks and Recreation staff when they are leading camp activities
  • Welcome and check in campers daily
  • Maintain and organize all waivers registration forms and data collection
  • Help share the Generation Wild message and work together with coalition partners when needed
Program
  • Help run all camp programs safely efficiently and on schedule
  • Ensure camper and staff safety and wellbeing at all times
  • Monitor and maintain safe conditions in all program areas and facilities
  • Promptly report injuries or program changes to supervisors
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
  • At least one year of experience working with children and some postsecondary education
  • Strong leadership supervision and motivational skills
  • A passion for working with children and families from diverse backgrounds
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish
  • CPR certification
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks
  • Knowledge of health and safety guidelines in camp settings
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
