Job Description

Utilizing clinical social work techniques and theory consults on assesses and intervenes with highrisk patients and their families regarding the impact/amelioration of emotional and social problems. Duties also include but are not limited to conducting psychosocial assessments making a psychosocial diagnosis planning and implementing effective treatments evaluation education supervision coaching and mentoring of the patient (client) and family members. The position consults with collaborates and communicates with a wide range of social governmental and legal agencies courts schools clinics other hospitals physicians and other sources in the overall care of the patient.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Level 1 Trauma Center utilizes licensed clinical social workers to provide crisis intervention services to patients and families impacted by major traumas acute grief catastrophic injuries or illness protective concerns intimate partner violence community violence and deaths.

Clinical social workers consult assess and intervene with highrisk patients and their families in one of the busiest Emergency Departments in the country. The position consults and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams as well as a wide range of social governmental and legal agencies courts schools clinics other hospitals physicians and others in the overall care of patients.

Position:Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker

Department: Emergency Department

Schedule:36 Hours (Days/Evenings)

Week 1 : Monday Tuesday Weds 7a7:30p

Week 2: Sunday Monday Tuesday 7a7:30p

One or Two Holidays per year

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

  • Provides support to patients and families dealing with acute grief catastrophic injuries or illness abuse/protective concerns intimate partner violence community violence and death.

  • Screens and assesses children elders and disabled patients for protective concerns.

  • Complies with responsibilities as mandated reporter on behalf of vulnerable children and adults.

  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams on behalf of patients and families.

  • Provides brief solutionfocused interventions and develops safety plans with patients as needed.

  • Completesbiopsychosocial assessments and other specialized trauma assessments.

  • Provides trauma informed strengthsbased interventions on behalf of patients and families.

  • Screens and assesses patients for needs regarding social determinants of health.

  • Provides case management and advocacy on behalf of patients and families.

  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams and community providers on behalf of patients and families.

  • Provides crisis intervention and problem solving support as needed.

  • Develops and maintains effective therapeutic relationships with patients and families.

  • Provides information referrals and counseling relative to health issues child/elder/disabled protective needs intimate partner violence end of life needs community violence substance use/abuse disabilities mental health concerns and homelessness.

  • Provides emotional support to families experiencing acute grief.

  • Uses techniques including motivational interviewing reflective listening and traumafocused cognitive behavioral treatment to support patients and families

  • Other related tasks as assigned by manager.

EDUCATION:

  • Requires a Masters Degree from an accredited school of Social Work and experience with traumainformed care.

CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Requires a Massachusetts license as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW).
