POSITION SUMMARY:
Screens the hearing of newborn infants in the nursery; schedules followup diagnostic appointments when needed document findings and communicate results to parents and hospital personnel.
Position: Newborn Hearing Screener
Department: Audiology
Schedule: Part Time (Per Diem Hours Vary)3
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
1) Screen the hearing of newborn infants in the nursery by using auditory brainstem response (ABR) test.
2) Counsel parents of newborns regarding screening procedures results and any need for followup.
3) Document screening results and any followup appointments in the hospital and electronic medical records according to protocol. Forwards results to DPH national registers etc.
4) Schedule diagnostic audiology followup appointments as needed for infants who do not pass newborn hearing screening or are identified in the nursery as being at high risk for developing hearing loss.
5) Interact and work with related services such as pediatrics neonatology and nursing etc. to ensure continuity of patient care.
6) Report problems to pertinent medical personnel at the time of screening and to newborn hearing screening coordinator.
7) Utilize hospitals Values as the basis for decision making and to facilitate the divisions hospital mission.
8) Follow established hospital infection control and safety procedures.
9) Performs other duties as needed.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
Bachelors degree (or equivalent combination of formal education and experience) required.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Requires effective interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain harmonious relationships.
Requires the ability to read write and communicate effectively.
Requires travel for job related purposes.
