Primary Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities Purpose of Job : Analysis of prepared thin sections (provided by a mining company) through standard petrographic methodology and SEM analysis. Prepare samples provided by company and analyze these samples using XRD . Intern will work with the Lab Equipment and Analytical Instrumentation Technician to prepare and analyze findings and results. Intern will also write a final report of findings and results for the company providing the samples with the guidance of the Lab Equipment and Analytical Instrumentation Technician. Duties and Responsibilities: Examine thin sections using a standard petrographic microscope and write descriptions of each thin section. Analyze thin sections for elemental data using SEM with EDS . Preparation of powder samples for use in XRD . Analyze samples using XRD . Compare results to mine prospect samples previously tested. Calibrate analytical instruments and develop SOP with production of a SOP manual. Other duties as assigned. Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others; must exercise due caution and practice safe work habits at all times Supervision: direct supervision from Thomas Reyes for day to day instruction. Thomas Reyes will also act as the Faculty/Staff Mentor within the STEM Internship Program. STEM Internship Program: This position is part of the Title III STEM Lobotrack to Success ( LTS ) SRSU STEM Internship Program. Along with the normal job duties the student will learn from the faculty supervisor about the STEM workforce different career pathways research and more. Students will gain knowledge experience and professional connections in the STEM field. Students will have access to professional development tools throughout the internship program (resume building interview practices etc.).
