Job Description

California State University San Bernardino (CSUSB) is a preeminent center of intellectual and cultural activity in the Inland Empire region of Southern California. JOB SUMMARY

Under supervision Instructional Student Assistants (ISA) in this classification perform various professional technical research and laboratory assistance duties for work hours in a given appointment with the Department of Kinesiology during an academic term. Assignments are made by the Department of Kinesiology or a KINE faculty member at California State University San Bernardino.

TYPICAL ACTIVITIES

Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty staff and students across a wide range of disciplines.

  • Assist with health and wellness/fitness individual plans and initiatives.
  • Assist with creating newsletters or other promotional materials.
  • Research health and wellness plans and ideas for promoting proper protocols for exercise and nutrition.
  • Work with Kinesiology courses at CSUSB to provide data for inclass projects
  • Maintain working relationship with community partners.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. While working as an Instructional Student Assistant the applicant must be enrolled in a class on campus.
  2. New hires will be required to attend a Human Resources New Hire Orientation before they can begin work. If the student accepts an Instructional Student Assistant job offer they must be willing to take an employee background check.
  3. If the individual being offered an ISA position needs a Social Security number they must notify the KINE Department as soon as possible to receive a contingency offer letter to take to the local Social Security office.
  4. The applicant must list on their ISA application form the classes and units for each class they will be taking during their time as an ISA.
  5. Student workers are not allowed to work over 20 hours per week in their roles. If offered multiple student positions on campus the student must notify each supervisor. All hours worked for each position must not exceed 20 hours per week.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • The applicant must show evidence of satisfactory progress toward completing their degree. Instructional Student Assistants must remain academically eligible by maintaining a graduate GPA of 2.5 or higher. The applicant must also maintain continuous enrollment and cannot be on probation during this time.
  • Applicants must be admitted or registered student at CSUSB.
  • Applicants must possess the ability to learn and perform assigned work work cooperatively with faculty staff and other students and accept responsibility.

PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidates working towards a degree in KINESIOLOGY at the time of appointment.
  • Candidates with good academic standing at CSUSB.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Following a conditional offer of employment a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with CSUSB. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may result in the withdrawal of the offer of employment. Note: CSUSB cannot deny an applicant a position solely or in part due to a criminal conviction history until it has performed an individualized assessment and linked the relevant conviction history with specific job duties in the position being sought.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Kinesiology Department is one of the largest departments at CSUSB with 18 fulltime and 26 parttime faculty and 950 undergraduate students. The department offers one undergraduate degree major in Kinesiology with four concentrations Allied Health Professions Physical Education and Adapted Physical Education Health Promotion and Exercise Science.
