Description

This role helps to foster selfreliance care for those in need and provide opportunities for giving and service by: helping members become economically and emotionally selfreliant; providing access to essential food and clothing items helping members prepare for and respond to disasters; and providing humanitarian aid to relieve suffering; thus furthering the mission of the Church.

Under direction of the driver manager and in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations the incumbent operates a heavyduty trucktractor with semitrailer hauling commodities for the Welfare SelfReliance Department and General Church throughout the United States and Canada.

Duties include: Driving overtheroad (OTR) in a safe manner by conducting daily vehicle inspections performing simple maintenance completing safety training preplanning routes following all traffic laws and working within Federal Hours of Service guidelines to deliver ontime. OTR drivers travel far from the home terminal for multiple days and may be deployed to help in disaster areas for extended weeks to distribute emergency response supplies. They are paid piece rate for miles and stops; are responsible for their own meals and hygiene items; and sleep in their tractor. Expectations include loading and unloading trailers; refueling and cleaning the vehicle; finding ways to maximize payloads; and conserving resources such as diesel fuel. They serve as company advocates and church ambassadors in every interaction with customers and the public.



Responsibilities

80% Driving Tractor/Trailer

10% Loading and unloading trailer

4% Performing safety checks completing safety training recording driving hours and duty status

3% Completing required shipping documents and entering data into electronic fleet management systems

2% Refueling the vehicle

1% Cleaning the vehicle



Qualifications

Required

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Class A commercial driver license (CDL).
  • International Passport required (for travel to Canada)
  • Complete driver qualification file including current motor vehicle record.
  • Ability to pass random drug tests.
  • Valid medical certificate
  • Physically capable of heavy lifting climbing bending kneeling stooping and sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Working ability to operate basic computer programs and phone apps for safety training and data entry.
  • Must display required interpersonal skills and dependability to reflect a positive image of the Church.

Preferred

  • 2 years of commercial driving experience
  • Hazmat tanker and double trailer endorsements
  • Forklift and Pallet Jack certifications
