Boeing Defense Space & Security (BDS) seeks a Lead Test Systems Design Engineer to our Special Test Equipment (STE) for Space Electronics team located in El Segundo CA.

This team works on spacegrade electronics from power and digital subsystems to RF/mixed signal systems and is responsible for the cradletograve design build validation and support to ensures the flight products and systems perform as intended in the extreme operating environments.

You will contribute to diverse projects from cuttingedge satellite communication systems to advanced exploration ventures. Your expertise will have a direct impact on crucial missions such as the development of the Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) system a high capacity satellite communications system for the United States Defense Department; the X37B an unmanned reusable spaceplane; the CST100 Starliner a spacecraft designed to transport crew to the International Space Station and private space stations of the future and many more space based missions!

Position Responsibilities:

• Design and develop stateoftheart Special Test Equipment (STE) for power and digital RF and mixed signal systems used in spacebased applications. This includes defining the STE architecture and performing handson development

• Conduct detailed circuit design for both power and digital and RF and mixed signal subsystems involving components like power supply circuits microcontrollers FPGAs logic circuits memory circuits filters amplifiers and mixers

• Perform detailed modeling and analysis of the designed circuits and overall test system to predict their behavior and performance. Utilize simulation tools like SPICE MATLAB/Simulink and Advanced Design System (ADS)

• Design and to gather data for technical performance measures which could involve testing power supplies under different load conditions testing digital circuit logic under different input conditions and testing RF circuit performance at different frequencies. Use tools like C# Python LabVIEW TestStand oscilloscopes network analyzers and vector signal analyzers to design automated tests for spacecraft modules slices and units

• Document designs test procedures and analysis results meticulously. Track these using version control systems like SVN

• Provide technical support during production and testing of spacequalified electronics. Troubleshoot any anomalies occurring during the integration and test of a test system or flight unit as well as during subsequent delivery and system usage

• Make recommendations for the procurement of test equipment ensuring the testing setup has the right tools for the job

• Lead STE design reviews to ensure adherence to development processes. Support the preparation of proposals and bids for new test system projects

• Mentor and guide team members fostering an environment of learning and growth

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. top secret/SCI clearance Post Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

• Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology) chemistry physics mathematics data science or computer science

• 9 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD4 years related work experience Master7 years related work experience).

• 5 years of experience in digital power or RF Test Systems

• Availability to travel up to 10% of the time domestically depending on business needs

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

• Software coding experience using LabView Test Stand C/C# Python FPGA Verilog/VHDL and/or MATLAB Signal

• Experience using Electrical Design Automation (EDA) Tools such as (e.g. OrCAD Mentor Graphics Altium PSPICE) to perform schematic capture PCB design/layout and circuit simulation

Preferred Technical Qualifications for RF/Mixed Signal:

• Knowledge and experience in control analog digital or power supply circuit design

• Experience designing RF/Mixed Signal circuits and systems: Indepth knowledge and experience in designing RF and mixedsignal circuits considering factors such as signal integrity noise and interference

• Experience with RF measurements; proficiency in RF measurement techniques including intermodulation distortion phase noise and spurious measurements. Familiarity with Sparameters is highly beneficial

• Proficiency in RF/Mixed Signal simulation software: Proficiency in using RF/mixedsignal simulation software like Keysights Advanced Design System (ADS) or similar

• Familiarity with RF/Mixed Signal Test Equipment; experience using RF/mixedsignal test equipment such as network analyzers spectrum analyzers and mixedsignal oscilloscopes

• Knowledge of RF/Mixed Signal Communication Protocols; familiarity with various RF/mixedsignal communication protocols used in space applications

• Experience in designing power and digital circuits; proficiency in designing a range of power circuits such as power supply units as well as digital circuits such as logic circuits and microprocessors.

• Familiarity with Power/Digital simulation software experience using power electronic and digital circuit simulation tools such as PSpice MATLAB Simulink or similar

Preferred Technical Qualifications for Power/Digital:

• Experience with power and digital test equipment. Handson experience using test equipment such as digital multimeters power analyzers logic analyzers and digital oscilloscopes

• Knowledge of power systems and digital communication protocols. Understanding of various power systems and digital communication protocols used in space applications

• Experience in power and thermal analysis. The ability to perform power and thermal analysis on circuits and systems predicting their behavior under various conditions and ensuring they meet the necessary requirements
