Job Description

Glassboro Public Schools is seeking qualified candidatesfor a Special Education Elementary School Teacher in a first grade classroom. This position is responsible for but not limited to the following duties:

TITLE: Special Education Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors Degree required. Must obtain a Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) or Certificate of Eligibility (CE) license. Demonstrated knowledge of special education regulations (Federal and State) and current trends/research in the field for accelerated achievement of students with disabilities. Ability to use technology (laptops desktops specialized assessment and data analysis software). Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations. Demonstrated ability to work effectively engage diverse parents/guardians with varied communication styles levels of skill and experience to support their childs education experience. Ability to employ a variety of teaching styles to respond to the needs of diverse learners. Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite Word Excel Outlook and and/or Power Point preferred)

Hold or be eligible to hold a State of NJ Certification: (1001) Elementary School Teacher in Grades K 5 and (2475) Students with Disabilities Certification

REPORTS TO: Principal

JOB GOAL/MAJOR FUNCTIONS:

The Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing specialized academic services directly to the students as well as collaborating with their parents and the IEP team regarding implementation of the Individual Education Plan. The employee will deliver effective academic instruction in line with school approved academic curriculum state standards and student IEPs.

  1. Provides direct instruction to students with disabilities.
  1. Develops lesson plans/instructional materials and provides individualized and group instruction in order to meet the needs of each pupil as stated on the Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
  1. Assess the progress of students on a regular basis utilizing tests curriculum measurements and observations skills and/or modifiedadapted assessment devices. Provides progress reports as required.
  1. Conducts education assessments.
  1. Communicates with parents through conferences IEP Team meetings and other means to discuss pupils progress and the Individualized Education Program.
  1. Maintains accurate complete and correct records case files etc. as required by program regulations Board policies and federal state and local laws.
  1. Attends and actively participates in staff/faculty meetings and system staff development priorities.
  1. Provides input regarding the planning of instructional goals objectives and methods of instruction for students with disabilities.
  1. Take all necessary safety precautions to protect students and materials of instruction.
  1. Communicates with students when academic and behavioral problems arise and exchanges information regarding appropriate behavior in the learning environment.
  1. Promotes a positive and welcoming atmosphere to encourage collaboration.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a ten (10) month position with salary and contract terms to be negotiated with the Superintendent and the Board of Education.

EVALUATION:

Performance in this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on evaluation of personnel.
