We are thrilled to announce the establishment of our firstever high school hockey program and are seeking a passionate dedicated and visionary Head Coach to lead this exciting new venture. This is a unique opportunity to build a program from its foundation and shape the future of hockey in Grand County.
Position: Head Hockey Coach
Reports To:Athletic Director
Position Summary:
The Head Hockey Coach will be responsible for all aspects of developing and managing a competitive and successful high school hockey program in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) and the policies of MIddle Park High School. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership qualities exceptional coaching skills a commitment to the academic and personal development of studentathletes and the ability to build a positive and inclusive team culture from the ground up. This role requires a proactive individual with excellent organizational communication and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to foster strong relationships with students parents school administration and the wider community.
Responsibilities:
Program Development:
Develop and implement a comprehensive vision and strategic plan for the new hockey program including shortterm and longterm goals for player development and team success.
Establish program philosophies and playing styles that align with the schools values and promote sportsmanship teamwork and respect.
Assist the Athletic Director in the recruitment and retention of studentathletes.
Develop and manage tryouts player evaluations and team selection processes.
Establish and maintain effective communication channels with prospective players and their families.
Coaching and Player Development:
Plan organize and conduct effective and engaging practices that focus on skill development tactical understanding and physical conditioning.
Provide constructive feedback and individualized instruction to studentathletes to maximize their potential.
Develop and implement game strategies and make effective ingame adjustments.
Foster a positive and supportive team environment that encourages growth resilience and a love for the game.
Emphasize the importance of academic success and ensure studentathletes maintain required academic standards.
Program Management and Administration:
Adhere to all CHSAA rules and regulations as well as school and district policies.
Manage the team budget effectively in collaboration with the Athletic Director.
Oversee the care and maintenance of team equipment.
Assist in coordinating team scheduling travel arrangements and game day logistics.
Maintain accurate team records including player statistics and attendance.
Work closely with the Athletic Director on fundraising initiatives and community outreach to support the new program.
Staff Supervision (as the program grows):
Potentially recruit train and supervise assistant coaches and volunteer staff ensuring they align with the programs philosophy and values.
Delegate responsibilities appropriately and provide guidance and support to coaching staff.
Communication and Community Engagement:
Serve as a positive representative of the hockey program and Middle Park High School within the school and community.
Communicate effectively and professionally with studentathletes parents school administration booster club and the media.
Foster positive relationships with other hockey programs and organizations.
Potentially organize community events or clinics to promote the program and the sport of hockey.
Safety and Wellbeing:
Prioritize the safety and wellbeing of all studentathletes.
Ensure proper safety protocols are followed during practices and games.
Be knowledgeable of and implement procedures for handling injuries and emergencies.
Promote a culture of respect and inclusivity within the team.
Qualifications:
Demonstrated successful experience coaching hockey at the high school level or above is strongly preferred. Experience building a new program is a significant asset.
Comprehensive knowledge of hockey rules strategies and techniques.
Valid coaching certifications as required by CHSAA (or willingness to obtain them).
Strong leadership organizational communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to motivate and mentor high school studentathletes.
Commitment to the academic and personal development of studentathletes.
Ability to work effectively with school administration parents and the community.
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Must pass a background check as required by the school district and CHSAA.
