Job Description

Primary Purpose

This position works from 12 pm to 8 pm or close with the primary duty of cashiering and maintaining the dining hall by keeping tables chairs and floors clean and supplies stocked. This position is also responsible for bussing the dish bins back to the dish pit throughout the shift.


PRIMARY PURPOSE

The Kitchen Technician is responsible for supporting all functions of Dining Services by performing the following tasks assigned each shift including but not limited to providing outstanding customer service as a the shift cashier processing dining sales transactions accurately and efficiently assisting with food preparation and storage in accordance with recipe specifications and planned menus washing and putting away all dishes maintaining kitchen and dining hall cleanliness and sanitation. Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned or directed by the Director of Dining Services or Kitchen Supervisor. Work as part of a team for the mission and objectives of dining services and the College.

Description of Essential Functions

Cashiering (approx. 40% of Time)

  1. Act as cashier; receipting and reconciling all types of monies while providing excellent customer service to all students staff and general public.
  2. Respond to student questions regarding meal plan options requirements and eligibility.
  3. Provide information on to go procedures and usage of reusable green boxes and paper products for sale as requested by customer.

General Kitchen Support (approx. 40% of time)

  1. Wash dishes as needed to restock all dishes glassware utensils pots and pans. Remove all dirty dishes trays and garbage from depository racks and bring them through back dock to avoid clean serving area. Keep all dish storage and trash areas clean and organized.
  2. Fills and wipes off condiment containers and drip pans. Restocks napkins eating utensils condiment packets straws etc. Keeps dining and service areas clean during and between service times.
  3. Assists with putting away freight and counting inventory to fulfill daily meal requirements.
  4. Assist in inventory counts as directed.
  5. Cleans and sanitizes equipment utensils appliances carts/speed racks work surfaces serving and storage areas to comply with health and sanitation regulations. Maintains work areas in an acceptable safe and sanitary condition. Perform various cleaning tasks including sweeping and mopping floors removing trash in the kitchen area cleaning sinks and drains and recycling cardboard and used fryer oil.
  6. Maintain cleanliness of dining area; including but not limited to tables chairs and floors.

Service Food Preparation and Storage (approx. 20% of Time)

  1. As needed prepare a variety of food products for daily menus used in dining services including but not limited to meats seafood poultry vegetables soups sauces and specialty diet items following recipes provided.
  2. Operate all kitchen equipment including but not limited to ranges ovens steamers steam kettles meat slicers flat top griddle and deep fryers.
  3. Prepares other cold prep food items such as slicing meats salad bar offerings and condiments. Cuts fruits and vegetables. Stores these foods with proper label and date in the appropriate storage location.
  4. Rotate all products based on proper dating systems in coolers freezers dry stock area and on the service line.
  5. Monitor/record food and equipment temperatures at regular intervals during the shift.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High school diploma or equivalent required.

  2. Minimum one (1) year customer service experience in a dining or food service setting with cashiering responsibilities.

  3. Familiarity with state health department regulations and industry standards for safety and sanitation is required.

  • Requires sufficient reading skills to read recipes labels instructions measuring devices and similar basic mathematical skills and writing skills to document activity.
  • Ability and willingness to manage a flexible work schedule with selfdiscipline and time management including various hours and possible weekends/evenings.
  • Working knowledge of the principles and techniques of kitchen back of house tasks including but not limited to dishwashing sanitizing garbage disposal and recycling.
  • Ability to interact and/or work with faculty students staff and visitors in a respectful and courteous manner. Interpersonal skills that will consistently cultivate positive relationships with internal and external constituencies.
  • Ability to work with commercial chemical cleaning agents (i.e. bleaches disinfectants etc.).


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • ServSafe Certification is preferred.

  • Preference will be given to those candidates with a post high school degree.

  • Experience in public dining hall setting.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OR LICENSES

Current or must obtain within thirty (30) days of employment Oregon Food Handlers Card or ServSafe Certification.
