Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Provide instructional support for Migrant Students before and after school. Provide resources through our Welcome Center for Migrant Students and their families. Provide instructional classroom support in all content areas for migrant students acquiring language; facilitate communication between school and parents.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Requirements: Strong writing skills and good command of English grammar rules. Associates degree or minimum of 72 college credits. Experience working with students in a school setting. Able to: (1) work with students individually and in small groups adapting to a variety of student needs; (2) work independently; (3) use computers; (4) maintain confidentiality; (5) carry out written and oral instructions; and (6) develop and maintain positive working relationships with district staff students parents and the public.

Knowledge Skills Abilities: Ability to tutor ELD and migrant students in all subjects including primary and secondary language development; ability to read English Spanish or other designated languages and comprehend curriculum materials through grade 12. Ability to write clear and concise communications in English Spanish or other designated languages; ability to work with migrant qualified students; ability to work with parents; ability to respect confidential information. Flexible and willing to do a variety of jobs to meet deadlines and complete all required training. Bilingual ability in a language identified by the immediate supervisor that will best support performance responsibilities.

Experience: Experience working with elementary middle school or high school students. Experience working with migrant youth preferred.

Education: Two years of college associates degree or passing score on a paraprofessional exam in reading writing and math as required by federal law.

Certification Required: None Employment contingent upon fingerprinting.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Conduct individual and small group tutorial assistance under the direction of the
  2. Conduct class and small group drill exercises in support of oral language
  3. Assist in monitoring student daily work academic progress and relationships with other students and school personnel.
  4. Provide assistance by preparing instructional materials filing materials and performing other clerical tasks.
  5. Administer assessment devices under the direction of the
  6. Serve as the school contact with community civic and other agencies while serving support needs of the students.
  7. Prepare room displays charts and other support materials to enhance bilingual
  8. Act as translator (oral or written) in the classroom school or at home as
  9. Supervise students with work assigned by the classroom
  10. Organize prepare adapt and distribute instructional and resource
  11. Collect record and maintain academic
  12. Assist with reviewing updating implementing and evaluating instructional
  13. Enter data as needed with student information system typing or emails for communication with
  14. Assist with playground cafeteria or bus duties if applicable to the building
  15. Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment.
  16. Ability to effectively work and communicate with students parents and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds in English Spanish or other languages related to the job.

Language Skills:

Ability to read English and other designated languages as required and comprehend curriculum materials through grade 12. Ability to write clear and concise communications in English and Spanish as required.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed but basic written or oral instructions in English and other languages as required.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Ability to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers supervisor(s) staff students parents and community.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to walk and may be continuously required to stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop kneel crouch or crawl. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. The employee may be required to sit at a desk and use a computer for long periods of time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

Works in a classroom environment in close proximity to students and other adults. May encounter students with emotional problems or hostile attitudes. Able to use a telephone operate a computer and use other office equipment. Able to drive to other program sites and meetings.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Works when school is in session and three parent conference days to interpret. Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board policy on the evaluation of Classified personnel.

CLASSIFICATION/LOCATION:

Classified 8 hours per day at Newberg High School. TEMPORARY POSITION

CALENDAR/BENEFITS:

188 day calendar Fulltime. Starting as soon as possible upon hire. TEMPORARY THROUGH THE END OF THE YEAR

Salary Range 9B of the 202425 Classified Wage Schedule $19.97 $25.41 per hour starting salary.
