Summary of Job Duties:
This position is for a Medical Laboratory Scientist I within the Cell Therapy Lab at UAMS. This position is responsible for processing freezing and storing hematopoietic progenitor cells (HPC) as well as participating in the thawing and transplant of these cells for cancer patients. This position performs high complexity testing on both patient samples and HPC products. This position is responsible for completing all paperwork with 100% accuracy. The staff member will perform Quality Control and Preventive Maintenance on equipment in the Cell Therapy Lab. The staff member is expected to follow all rules and regulations established by the Cell Therapy Lab to maintain compliance with FDA FACT and other accrediting agencies. The staff member will assist the supervisor with inspections audits and other duties as necessary.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Medical Laboratory Science Biology Chemistry or other science related field
- Eligible for ASCP Certification. Must obtain certification within 1 year of eligibility.
Additional Information:
- Records and interpret test results ensuring accuracy and consistency.
- Performs quality control and preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment and temperature control required by regulatory entities. Assist in lab inventory control cleanliness and organization.
- Ensures proper handling and processing of all specimens received in the lab including but not limited to patient identification specimen protocol triage specimen and lab troubleshooting grossing embedding frozen sections etc.
