Job Description

Quincy Public Schools seeks outstanding applicants for the position of Resource/Float School Nurse. This is a fulltime position rotating between schools according to the calendar school year. Hours will be according to the school assignment.

Qualifications:

  • A qualified candidate has achieved a minimum of a Bachelors degree and is licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts per the Massachusetts Board of Registry for Nursing.
  • MA DESE licensure as a school nurse.
  • The qualified candidates hold current certification for CPR AED as a Health Care Provider per the American Heart Association
  • The candidate has worked for two years as a registered nurse in school health child health community health or other relevant pediatric/adolescent clinical care setting.
  • The candidate can assume the full scope of responsibilities of the school nurse position.
  • The candidate must be knowledgeable of the pertinent regulations governing school nursing practice in Massachusetts the guidelines and standards of care established by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) and the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) as applicable to the policies and procedures established by the Quincy Public Schools (QPS).
  • Reports To:Coordinator of Health Services and School PrincipalSCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES::

    The primary objective of school health services provided by the school nurse is to foster the optimum level of wellness for students and staff. The school nurse provides a broad range of health services including acute episodic and emergency care. School nurses manage the care of students with special health care needs at school. The school nurse coordinates the health needs of students to reduce barriers and promote effective learning. The school nurse is responsible for developing implementing and managing a school health program for a school population as defined by the school district.

    RESPONSIBILITIES will include::

  • Assesses the current health needs of the student population
  • Maintains individual health records on each student
  • Coordinates and manages the health needs of students within the school
  • Administers required daily and prn medications
  • Provides required medical treatments to students with specialized health care needs
  • Develops Individualized Health Care Plans for students with specialized health care needs
  • Ensures students comply with mandated school health requirements
  • Provides daily episodic care to students/staff
  • Provides emergency care to students/staff
  • Controls the spread of communicable diseases within the school
  • Conducts mandated health screenings for students (vision hearing postural heights and weights)
  • Refers students/staff for follow up medical evaluations
  • Collaborates with parents physicians and identified community agencies to coordinate students health care within the school
  • Provides health education to students and staff around specified health issues/topics
  • The school nurse is a member of the Student Support Team Crisis Team and Wellness Team.
