The Raytheon Mechanical Engineering (ME) Organization leads the mechanical hardware design advanced development and production of radar sonar torpedo and combat system equipment. The ME Team uses stateof theart tools processes technology and Raytheons CORE principles. MEs capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering manufacturing technical services materials processes analysis test and documentation.
The Radar Mechanical Design Department leads mechanical design development and integration of some of the most innovative landbased and shipboard radars in the world. This includes phased array radar systems hardware integration and electronic modules pedestal and power and cooling systems. The department is comprised of individuals with technical expertise and experience in hardware design integration and production support.
Mechanical Engineering is searching for an experienced onsite Principal Design Engineer to work in the Radar Design Department supporting Advanced Technology Sensor and Hardware Development in our Northeast Facilities. Must be able to lead the design and fabrication of engineering prototype hardware support program proposal efforts development and testing of the Advanced Integrated Surface Sensor portfolio and frequently travel between the Marlboro Tewksbury Portsmouth and Andover facilities.
What You Will Do
Prototype Design and Development oversee the design and development integrated radar subsystems prototypes ensuring it meets customer requirements. This includes working on hardware and electrical components and integrating them into the next higherlevel assembly. This role will requires something with a handson approach with significant past prototype build and mechanical assembly experience
Collaboration and Coordination collaborate across the multidisciplinary team of engineers and across the business and other RTX sites including with those working other subsystems.
Frequent technical contact with the customer and senior personnel inclusive of requirements IRAD future technical needs etc.
Visible and accountable for technical decisions
Effective communication and collaboration skills are critical
Work with minimal direction or supervision while exercising considerable latitude in determining the technical objectives of the assignment
Testing and Validation responsible for the testing and validation of prototype hardware. Includes developing test plans conducting tests (at RTX facilities and offsite customer demos) and analyzing results to verify performance as expected under various conditions
Capture Management support the capture of new CRAD efforts through the leading the development of white papers and proposal technical volumes
Requirements Management manage and document technical requirements at the top level assembly along with tracking lower level subsystem requirements
Project Management handles technical project management tasks. This includes assessing potential issues and developing strategies to address them before they impact the program
Qualifications You Must Have
Education: Bachelors in Science Technology Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) or related degree and 8 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced degree and 5 years of relevant experience
Experience with innovative mechanical design and trouble shooting skills
Experience with IRAD development in a collaborative environment
Experience with electronic packaging

Qualifications We Prefer
Experience with ANSI drawing standards and/or first order or structural analysis techniques
Proven experience in proposal development through technical execution of fast paced design build and testing of prototype units
Ability to travel
Familiarity with the design and manufacturing processes of CCAs metal housings sheet metal
Experience with CREO(Pro/E) or similar 3D solid modeling software
Experience with ANSYS Mechanical or similar FEA modeling software
Strong technical background with high technical aptitude
Strong leadership skills and project management
Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word Excel PowerPoint)
Very strong verbal and written communications and interpersonal skills when working with team members and customers
Advanced degree in Mechanical Electrical or Aerospace Engineering
