South Bronx Uniteds mission is to use soccer as a vehicle for social change helping youth build character teamwork and leadership skills so that they can succeed in high school college careers their community and beyond. South Bronx serves 1800 boys and girls ages 4 through 19 each year by combining soccer with academic enrichment college prep mentoring leadership development health and wellness and legal and support services for immigrant youth. SBU is seeking dynamic educators who can effectively engage students through high interest content during our Summer Soccer Scholars Program. Summer Soccer Scholars is a fiveweek program for 80 middle and high school students combining soccer academics and life skills to keep youth active and learning during the summer months. Instructors will serve as lead teachers during the academic portion of the program and will be supported by SBU staff and summer interns. Applicants must be able to attend training and commit to the full summer schedule.
Summer instructors will be responsible for teaching fiveweek academic enrichment courses to classes of middle or high school youth. Curriculum spans approximately 16 hours of instruction in one hour classes daily MondayThursday across the five weeks. ELA instructors will receive unit guidance and targeted Common Core standards for their specific grade level and subject. Instructors are expected to design engaging and fun lessons activities and assessments for the course in collaboration with the SBUs Director of Academic Programs. Instructors will teach two or three onehour classes daily with a teaching assistant. Class sizes range from 1218 students.
Qualifications:
South Bronx United is looking for a highly motivated energetic teacher who wants to make a difference in the lives of South Bronx youth. ELA instructors should have experience in teaching middle or high school reading and writing. Teachers should have experience teaching students between ages of 11 and 19 preferably in the Bronx or other inncity settings. Experience in curriculum development lesson planning and differentiated instruction is preferred. Instructors should have strong classroom management skills and be able to work effectively with assistant teachers. A masters or bachelors degree in an education related field is strongly preferred. No soccer background necessary.

$2500 $3000 depending on number of periods taught paid in two installments throughout the summer.
