Job Description
Overview
We are seeking a Principal System Architect to manage and maintain our framework and legacy systems including UNIX Linux and IBM Power (AIX IBMi) environments. The ideal candidate will ensure the reliability performance and security of critical systems while supporting ongoing operations and migrations as part of our IT modernization efforts.
This role while centered on a specific area of expertise is part of a team of highly skilled system engineers and architects delivering a broad spectrum of server services. Consequently the responsibilities of this position may evolve or expand over time.
Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities
- Manage configure and maintain UNIX like HPUX Solaris AIX systems in a multiplatform environment. Knowledge on IBMi OpenVMS & zLinux under z/VM should be a plus.
- Monitor system performance troubleshoot issues and implement enhancements to optimize performance.
- Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability
- Ensure high availability and disaster recovery readiness for critical systems.
- Maintain security backup and redundancy strategies
- Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks
- Document legacy configurations and processes for knowledge sharing and future migrations.
- Participate in crossfunctional projects providing technical expertise on legacy systems.
- Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Technology or a related field or equivalent experience.
- 7 years of experience managing UNIX Linux and AIX systems in enterprise environments.
- Proficiency in shell scripting and automation tools.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with experience diagnosing and resolving complex system issues.
- Knowledge of virtualization platforms (e.g. VMware PowerVM PowerVC) and storage systems.
- Familiarity with backup and recovery processes for legacy systems.
- Knowledge of legacy system modernization techniques.
- Experience working in highavailability and missioncritical environments.
