Job Description
Durant Public School is accepting applications for the position ofAdjunct Aviation Instructor for theschool term.
PartTime (10 a.m. 12 p.m.)
Durant Middle School is seeking a passionate and dedicated STEM Teacher to lead aviationfocused STEM courses using the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) STEM Curriculum. The ideal candidate will inspire and engage students through handson learning experiences projectbased instruction and innovative teaching strategies that promote careers in aviation aerospace and related STEM fields.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach AOPAs high school aviation STEM curriculum incorporating realworld applications and handson projects.
- Develop lesson plans aligned with AOPA guidelines.
- Integrate technology and industry trends into instruction including flight simulators and drone technology.
- Collaborate with school staff industry professionals and community partners to enhance learning experiences.
- Participate in professional development and stay updated on advancements in aviation and STEM education.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Bachelors degree in education STEMrelated field Aviation or a related discipline (Masters preferred).
- Experience teaching STEM subjects engineering or aviationrelated coursework preferred.
- Strong knowledge of aviation principles and AOPA curriculum (training on curriculum can be provided).
- Experience using flight simulators drones or aerospace technology in an educational setting is preferred.
- Possess a current FAA Flight Instructor Certificate with Instrument Instructor rating;
- Possess a current FAA ThirdClass Medical or higher;
- Maintain 14 CFR 61.57 Recent Flight Experience currency;
- Be a graduate of a 14 CFR 141 Flight Training program.
- Be able to secure upon request at least provisional teaching certification through the Oklahoma Department of CareerTech.
The ideal candidate has strong computer skills including Outlook Google Classroom G suite with a comfort level working in a 1:1 laptop environment. While independent school experience is preferred it is not required.
