The Senior Service Engineer is an experienced engineer with expertise in laboratory instrumentation and
robotics they can independently approach the majority of event in the lab confidently employing strong
troubleshooting techniques to address issues faced in the laboratory environment. This engineer can
perform their duties with full autonomy. They have the teams confidence and have built strong
relationships crossfunctionally and with vendors. They lead by example and contribute to the team
beyond the day to day service duties. This member of the team is working with leadership to not only
ensure the lab is running optimally but also to raise and implement solutions that improves the teams ability
to support the labs needs.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Fully Autonomous role.
Takes on complex technical problems and develops solutions independently.
Handles some escalations.
Drafts SOPs and work instructions. Contributes heavily to troubleshooting Wiki.
Identifies process inefficiencies and works to improve them.
Revises SOPs and work instructions to implement improvements.
Uses strong troubleshooting techniques to address issue of high complexity. Assists other
engineers with complex repairs.
Collaborates on high complexity instrument escalations.
Has mastered the 3 pillars of troubleshooting and leverages their expertise for root cause
analysis. Repeat instrument failure rate is low.
Can analyze and interpret data for the purposes of troubleshooting.
Can navigate software components of the systems (log files supporting software tools etc.) for the
purpose of troubleshooting.
Documents service tickets completely and with appropriate detail.
Adhere to Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
Adhere to lab safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree in Engineering Life Science or related field.
58 years of Service Engineering experience with expertise in complex laboratory instrumentation
instrument software LIMS systems and service processes and workflows.
Understanding of 21 CFR Part 11 FDA and CLIA regulations.
Strong knowledge of GDP and regulatory requirements.
Strong knowledge of diagnostic laboratory workflows.
Excellent problemsolving and leadership skills.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Strong technical skills both mechanical and electrical expert in his/her field
Strong mentorship skills to junior members of team
Exceptional customer service skills
Software savvy knows how to identify and resolve complex software issues
Works autonomously
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position requires the ability to use a computer keyboard communicate over the telephone
and read printed material.
Duties may require working outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends) at times.
