Job Description
A&K Railroad Materials Inc. is a leading supplier of new and used railroad track materials. A&K has sales offices and a network of storage and distribution facilities strategically located throughout the United States. Together these offices and inventory locations maintain an extensive and comprehensive inventory of track materials across the nation. Job Overview:
The Laborer Operator will be working closely with the rail yard crew. This individual will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our yard activities including loading and unloading trucks managing inventory and operating equipment to facilitate the movement of rail within the yard.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with the loading and unloading of trucks.
- Help keep track of inventory to ensure accurate records and efficient operations.
- Cut/ grind rail and operate equipment to move rail around the yard safely and effectively.
- Support the yard crew with various tasks as needed to maintain productivity and organization.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and procedures at all times.
- Unload materials that are delivered such as lumber or bags of cement and distribute them to appropriate location as identified by supervisor.
- Utilize manual tools and equipment as needed.
- Assist in various maintenance or other general tasks within the yard as needed or required by the foreman.
- Ability to listen to understand and follow directions.
- Ability to remain flexible as specific assignments change.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic as needed to count and take inventory.
- Experience using a tape measure.
- Experience communicating with others within a team setting.
- Experience in labor within a heavy industry.
- Experience using hand tools power tools grinders etc.
- Experience with forklifts or backhoes.
- GED / High School Diploma.
Physical Requirements:
- Physical strength balance handeye coordination and stamina necessary to complete various tasks.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 80 pounds and push/pull 50pound loads.
- Capability to work in all weather conditions.
- Able to stand walk jump and climb stairs for extended periods while carrying materials weighing between 40 and 50 pounds.
