General Purpose
The College and Career Readiness Next Steps Advisor empowers students to explore plan and successfully transition into postsecondary pathwayswhether that be college (including help with FAFSA & Scholarships) career training military service or entering the workforce. The coach/advisor provides individualized support fosters a culture of readiness and connects students with the resources experiences and guidance needed to make informed confident decisions about their future.
Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities
Postsecondary Planning & Advising
- Assist students in identifying researching and pursuing a variety of postsecondary options including 2year and 4year colleges trade schools apprenticeships military pathways and workforce entry.
- Support students in developing personalized postsecondary plans aligned to their interests strengths and longterm goals.
- Conduct oneonone and group advising sessions to guide students through college and career decisionmaking.
- Help students with college program exploration including identifying scholarships internships and jobs that align with their future ambitions.
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to educate students on college readiness topics through classroom presentations schoolwide announcements and advisory sessions.
- Work with core subject teachers to integrate college FAFSA and scholarship awareness into class discussions and activities.
- Help plan and coordinate with programs such as Concurrent Enrollment (CE) IB and other college credit opportunities.
College Application Support
- Guide students through the college application process: selecting schools writing essays preparing resumes and submitting applications.
- Assist students with requesting transcripts managing letters of recommendation and updating ACT scores for transcript accuracy.
- Help students create Parchment accounts and submit high school and CE transcripts to prospective colleges.
- Coordinate and host Utah College Application Week (UCAW) including scheduling visits with college admissions representatives.
- Assist students in viewing and accepting admissions deferrals and scholarship offers.
- Help facilitate College Admit Days for admitted students to learn about scholarships housing registration and campus life.
- Provide individualized support with scholarship essays application formatting and submission.
- Communicate scholarship deadlines and updates through student emails posters college bulletin boards and monthly updates.
- Facilitate information through events presentations and oneonone sessions.
- Track and follow up on students college application progress and outcomes.
Financial Aid & Scholarships
- Assist students and families in creating FAFSA accounts understanding program details and completing the application process.
- Help parents and guardians process login credentials import tax information and submit FAFSA forms accurately.
- Provide individualized and group support on financial aid topics and award letter comparisons.
- Cultivate a FAFSAcompletion culture through events incentives and studentled initiatives (e.g. competitions lunch events art displays).
- Plan coordinate and host at least two FAFSA Nights with USHE support and volunteer mobilization.
- Support scholarship exploration and application completion including tracking submissions and award notifications.
- Send targeted scholarship updates and reminders via email and school communication channels.
- Track and report FAFSA completion and scholarship application data.
Career Exploration & Preparation
- Facilitate career readiness activities including interest assessments personality inventories guest speakers and job shadowing.
- Support resume creation interview preparation and job application processes.
- Connect students with workbased learning opportunities such as internships apprenticeships and industry certifications.
- Develop a college and career culture throughout the school via promotional events competitions and studentdriven projects.

- Manage visits from college reps and coordinate student attendance (hall passes attendance tracking).
- Build and maintain partnerships with colleges training programs military branches and local employers.
- Coordinate with military recruiters for individual and group student meetings career days and lunchroom visits.
Data & Reporting
- Track and analyze data related to:
- College applications and admissions status
- FAFSA completion rates
- Scholarship submissions
- Military/career interest tracking
- Postsecondary plans and additional student needs
- Use data insights to adjust outreach identify gaps and increase student engagement in readiness activities.
Equity & Accessibility
- Provide targeted support to firstgeneration college students English language learners students from lowincome backgrounds and others who face systemic barriers to postsecondary success.
- Ensure all students and families have equitable access to guidance events and resources related to college and career readiness.
Other Possible Duties
- Plan and manage event budgets including food drinks and prizes to increase student/family participation.
- Attend additional student or collegerelated meetings or functions as needed.
- Support schoolwide college and career initiatives as assigned by administration.
Education and Experience
- 48 college credit hours or a passing score on the ParaPro test
- Six (6) months of related experience
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- The job occasionally requires light physical exertion including walking standing motor vehicle operation and other forms of light physical activity.
- The job occasionally requires a moderate level of physical exertion such as handling medium weight materials (1150 pounds) extensive standing walking crawling bending stooping or climbing or assisting special education students with their physical needs.
- Work is carried out in an agreeable environment as generally represented by normal office conditions and little or no unpleasant elements.
- Work is occasionally carried out in mildly disagreeable conditions. Work involves exposure to unpleasant elements such as noise ventilation crowded nature of work exposure to outside weather conditions pressures related to sensitive situations sitting;/standing in one position for an extended period of time etc. that yield a perceptible level of discomfort.
- Typically involves contact with students parents teachers principal assistant principal and/or other staff members as well as community partners.
