Job Description

JOB GOAL:

The Special Education Health Care Aide supports the Department of Special Programs through caring for students under the direction of the school nurse interfacing with Special Programs and providing clerical support in Special Education Classrooms.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Nine and onefourth (9.25) month (184 days) contract Pay Grade 103 plus benefits package. NOTE: Precise placement within the salary range will be determined based on experience.FLSA: NonExempt. Salary Range is based on an eighthour workday.

REPORTS TO:Building Administrator

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or general educationdegree (GED) with a minimum of 60 college hours or aCertified Nursing Assistant license or certificate or equivalent preferred.
    • Completed two years of study at an institution of higher educationIn Arkansas 60 semester credit hours at a regionally accredited institution of higher education are required.
    • Obtained an associates (or higher) degree.
  2. A minimum of two years of work experience providing care to children or young adults with preference given to work in a medical or school facility.
  3. Must have experience with Microsoft Word Microsoft Outlook and the ability to master the computer mainframe and CIS program within 1 month.
  4. Must have experience with First Aid and have or complete certification within the first month in CPR/AED First Aid and Medication Administration. Continuing Education Certification to provide personal care (Opportunity to get certified provided by district)
  5. Must be capable of interacting effectively with administrators teachers staff members students parents and the general public using respectful tactful and helpful customer service.
  6. Must have dependable transportation and the ability to work in a different school each day if directed.

Such alternatives and additions to the above qualifications may be deemed appropriate by the Superintendent. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of all personnel within this position.

  1. Work with assigned students with a disability and assist in special education classrooms.
  2. Must be capable of interacting effectively with administrators teachers staff members students parents and the general public using respectful tactful and helpful customer service.
  3. Perform routine duties associated with health care to students (after proper training and with monitoring by the school Nurse) which may include: Lifting and positioning of students; Changing clothes/diapers Catheterization; Tube Feedings Oral feeding and food preparation Tracheostomy care Brushing Teeth Monitoring and documenting seizures Monthly Cycle Care
  4. Perform routine duties associated with a busy yet productive office including; making health records for new students entering immunizations and other data into the district database record screening results onto health records filing and other tasks as directed by the nurse or Health Services Secretary.
  5. Provide health care to students utilizing district procedures incorporating infection control HIPPA and FERPA.
  6. Keep Medicaid documentation on personal care procedures (training provided).

Mental Functions Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:


While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit stand walk go up and downstairs operate foot and hand controls use a telephone and write. Occasionally the employee must lift and/or move up to twenty (20) or more pounds. This position requires accurate perceiving of sound near and far vision depth perception handling and working with educational materials and/or objects and providing oral information. Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period and to be physically present and at assigned work with only infrequent unexcused absences during the contract year. Additional technical skills knowledge and abilities may be recommended by the immediate supervisor and approved by the Human Resources Director.
