Job Description

AECOM is currently seeking an experienced Environmental Technician for employment near Beaumont TX.  In this role you will primarily work with Project Manager to support remedial operations maintenance and groundwater monitoring projects at client facilities.  The candidate will ideally have experience in general construction and environmental remediation/sampling. Handson mechanical experience and interests preferred (ex pump repair plumbing construction home repair auto maintenance). Typical projects include groundwater treatment systems soil remediation (in situ and ex situ) construction of support buildings/facilities groundwater and soil sampling.

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Managing data and tracking operating parameters
  • Performs routine fieldwork (such as environmental multimedia sampling operations maintenance and inspection of equipment) working under close supervision for the first six months.
  • Performs routine systems maintenance and operation tasks in support of project staff.
  • Various operations and maintenance activities associated with remediation systems involving extraction of hydrocarbon material and impacted vapor and groundwater performing recovery system and well pump maintenance as needed groundwater monitoring and recording accurate field data for project team.
  • Other activities may include health and safety coordination setting up and operating equipment inspecting equipment and installations for compliance with specifications and maintaining proper project documentation.
  • Subcontractor oversight.
  • Working with field geologists and engineers on various projects at the site facilitating permits etc.
  • Position will require OSHA 40hour hazardous site worker training.

Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent with 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and or education.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license and clean driving record to travel between onsite locations.
  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a preemployment substance abuse test.
  • In order to receive a security badge at the client worksite for which you are being hired to perform services you will be required to pass the clients background medical and drug screening requirements which will be done after you have commenced employment and is a condition of your continued employment.
  • Ability to obtain the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) within 30 days of hire
  • Majority of daily tasks require moving and working in outdoor environments with uneven terrain and variable environmental conditions including heat cold dusts noise moisture vibration and chemicals to perform daily walkthroughs and inspection of worksite. Also a portion of the daily work is unaccompanied in isolated/remote areas.
  • Position requires occasional work in an environment with moving heavy equipment .
  • This position requires frequent (more than 50% of the workday) repetitive bending/stooping to take ground water level measurements perform system bail downs and to inspect and repair system lines. Power gripping/squeezing hand tools and levers to perform maintenance or reading of flow meters and removing nuts and bolts while replacing filters/pumps. 
  • Position requires ability to operate office computer and field tablet to enter data tracking requirements.
  • Position requires frequently lifting carrying and loading equipment weighing up to 50lbs such as sample coolers and pumps without assistance and up to up to 75lbs. with assistance.
  • On occasion position requires working with arms above shoulder level and using portable ladders.
  • Position will include wearing associated personal protective equipment including but not limited to gloves safety glasses/goggles safety shoes/boots hard hat hearing protection face shield and fireretardant clothing (FRC).
  • Due to the nature of this role US citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Mechanical skills and handson skills
  • Experience operating full size pickup trucks.
  • Experience with various media sampling (soil groundwater and waste) and monitor well pumps/maintenance.
  • Experience with health and safety programs and effective communication skills (verbal field notes etc.).
  • Current OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER Training/Refresher is preferred.
