Are you passionate about science and supporting handson learning The Lab Materials team is seeking a detailoriented safetyfocused Lab Materials Specialist to help power the behindthescenes work of science labs across biology chemistry physics geology agriculture and horticulture. Youll play a critical role in preparing materials maintaining lab equipment and safety protocols managing chemical inventories and mentoring student employeesensuring our faculty and students have the resources they need to explore discover and innovate.

Key Responsibilities:

Support the Preparation and Delivery of Science Laboratories

  • Review course schedules and lab material lists to plan and prepare for upcoming lab sessions
  • Stage set up break down and store lab materials including equipment chemicals glassware and specimens
  • Prepare and standardize chemical reagents and solutions as required
  • Prepare microbiological media reagents and stains; maintain microbiological culture collections
  • Clean repair and maintain laboratory glassware and classroom/lab spaces including counters sinks and floors

Operate and Maintain Scientific Equipment and Instrumentation

  • Maintain and operate lab instruments such as autoclaves incubators ovens thermocyclers microscopes and anatomical models
  • Calibrate validate and maintain analytical instruments such as HPLC GC GC/MS and AAS
  • Set up and conduct chemical experiments and tests using methods like chromatography spectroscopy and microscopy
  • Compile and interpret experimental results and data
  • Supervise or monitor workers involved in chemical production processes

Ensure Safety Compliance and Proper Chemical Management

  • Participate in lab safety chemical handling and hazardous waste disposal training
  • Maintain the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) library and ensure accessibility
  • Organize and store chemicals per local state and federal regulations
  • Track usage and maintain inventory of consumable and nonconsumable supplies
  • Identify handle and dispose of hazardous materials and biohazards in compliance with legal requirements
  • Correct or report any safetyrelated concerns promptly

Provide Instructional and Logistical Support

  • Train and assist student workers in laboratory procedures and safety protocols
  • Support faculty with field trip coordination including van reservations driving (with certification) and onsite assistance
  • Demonstrate professionalism and uphold CWIs values through communication teamwork and service

What We Are Looking For:

  • Previous coursework in sciences or equivalent experience
  • BS/BA in Biology Microbiology Chemistry preferred
  • Previous experience in media preparation and microbial culture maintenance and Identification (Microbiology) preferred
  • Must have a valid drivers license
  • Previous experience in wet chemistry and analytical instrumentation such as HPLC AAS GC GC/MS (Physical Sciences) preferred
  • Ability to lift 45 lbs.


WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Within the lab environment there is exposure to odorous chemicals and the noise level is generally quiet but does vary based on activity. May be required to lift chemical containers and laboratory equipment weighing up to 45 lbs.

Additional Instructions for Applicants:

*Lab Materials Specialists may be assigned to support labs outside of traditional campus hours and at different locations.

**Most positions at CWI are inperson and based on campus. While some roles may allow up to two remote workdays per week eligibility for remote work is determined on a casebycase basis at the hiring managers discretion. All candidates must reside within or be willing to relocate to a reasonable commuting distance from CWI. Employment visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
