In this position you will acquire the necessary skills and experience to operate highway construction and maintenance equipment while also engaging in various manual labor tasks as part of a highway or bridge maintenance team.
You will undergo training to obtain the required licenses and certifications for operating equipment such as Heavy Truck/Tandem Axle (HT/TA) and loaders with a bucket capacity of 4.5 cubic yards or less. It will be crucial to perform and document pre and postoperation checks as well as make field adjustments to ensure safe operation and reduce equipment wear. When not operating machinery you will assist with a range of manual labor duties utilizing both motorized and nonmotorized hand tools including shovels rakes hammers chain saws compressors and patching machines.
