Description

Primary Objective

Assess plans and provides patient care under the supervision of a physician to ensure quality care to the patients and support for the physicians by providing medical treatment and medical care services to patients by performing duties within the scope of the policy and procedures defined by CEENTA. The ACP will perform medical acts under an agreement with a Primary Supervising Physician and in some instances additional Alternate Supervising Physicians for supervision collaboration consultation and evaluation of the medical acts the primary supervising physician is not available a backup supervising physician will be available specifically a physician member of CEENTA.

Essential Functions

  • Examines patient performs comprehensive physical examinations and compiles patient medical data including health history and results of physical examination and creates encounter documentation within electronic medical record according to the policies and procedures of Charlotte Eye Ear Nose and Throat Associates
  • Performs general examinations and consults for patients in the surrounding hospital systems
  • Consults with physicians on patient problems and interpretation of policies to ensure patient needs are met
  • Diagnose and treat illnesses and patient injuries
  • Orders and interprets laboratory and radiographic studies
  • Prescribes medication as needed
  • Educate and counsel patients regarding healthcare needs
  • Performs minor surgical procedures
  • Conducts allergy consultations and research and drug studies
  • Facilitates patient referrals to the appropriate physician for care
  • Provides weekend and holiday triage call
  • Ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the position
  • The ability to work onsite

Skills and Abilities

Ability to follow procedures and processes in accordance with CEENTA standards. Network computer software applications practice management software and applicable electronic medical record software. Must maintain proficiency in machines utilized to perform duties.

Training Period

The ACP functions under the supervision of a primary or back up physician who will be immediately available for consultation by direct communication or telecommunication. The ACP may also function under the direction of nonmedical personnel i.e. administration while performing nonmedical acts. Documentation of supervisory review requirements are as follows:

  • Appropriate review and appropriate countersigning of notation of medial acts as designated by the primary or backup supervising physician within seven days of patient contact or as required by hospital medical staff bylaws.
  • Entries by an ACP into patient charts of Inpatient Patients (hospitals) must comply with rules and regulations of the institution.
  • During the first six months of the initial collaborative practice agreement there shall be meetings with the primary supervising physician at least monthly for a total of six months. These meetings shall be documented and signed by both the ACP and the supervising physician and will include information concerning:
    • Clinical issues discussed and actions taken;
    • Be signed and dated by those who attended; and
    • Be available for review by member or agents of either Board for the previous five calendar years and be retained by both the ACP and the primary supervising physician.

  • After the first 6 months the NC Board of Medicine requires continued Quality Improvement meetings no less than every six months. Meetings are to be documented with date and clinical problems discussed. To meet these requirements CEENTA advises review of no fewer than 10 clinical chart audits with Collaborating Physician(s) on a bimonthly basis. Charts should be inclusive of new and established patients.
    • Quality Improvement meeting forms should be kept with the Practice Manager of the primary report to location.

Qualifications

Education

Must have a bachelors degree (B.S.) from a fouryear College or University; must be a Graduate of an accredited ACP program. Must meet any state requirements pertaining to an ACP. Familiar with standard concepts practices and procedures within a particular field.

Experience

  • Successful completion of ACP program and associated clinical rotations required.
  • Otolaryngology experience preferred.

Certificates Licenses Registrations

Must meet any state requirements pertaining to an ACP. Must meet requirements to obtain hospital privileges at local hospitals.

Supervisory Responsibilities

The ACP functions under the supervision of a primary or back up physician who will be immediately available for consultation by direct communication or telecommunication. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This position is full time. Standard hours of operation may differ dependent on location.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to problem solve make quick decisions thrive in a fastpaced environment and use discretion with sensitive patient information.

Travel

Travel is expected between the associated hospitals and corresponding CEENTA locations. In circumstances where ACP clinic coverage is needed ACP would be expected to assist. All attempts will be made to localize travel coverage regionally.

A Typical Day in the Position

The ACP will work in the clinic however they may be asked to assist with performing hospital consultations Clinic hours are anticipated to begin as early as 7am or as late as 8am contingent upon physician and patient schedules. ACP templates will be set to be available to accommodate approximately 1428patients per day.
