An organization within Northrop Grummans Payload and Ground Systems (PGS) division SYNOPTICS is the worldwide leader in the growth fabrication and coating of crystalline materials used in laser systems. These solidstate laser crystals are used in products ranging from medical lasers to military laser systems.

The Charlotte facility has been operating for over 40 years in the laser industry and has developed the reputation of providing the highest quality products with timely deliveries.

Within the facility solidstate oxide and fluoride crystals are grown from a hightemperature melt. SYNOPTICS has full optical fabrication capabilities for various plano and spherical geometries. SYNOPTICS serves the photonics and optics industry across the globe.

Major Responsibilities:

Identify new technologies to develop and implement automated manufacturing solutions related to crystal growth optical fabrication and thin film coating
Improve processes to enhance costefficiency quality speed agility and consistency
Lead improvement projects through all phases including conceptualization planning design manufacturing inhouse testing documentation and ongoing support
Work closely with technicians department engineers and supervisors to ensure project success
Further refine project scope and objectives under general guidance exercising latitude in determining technical objectives of assigned projects
Conduct root cause analysis on process failures and implement corrective actions
Oversee capital equipment purchases when necessary ensuring proper qualification and develop preventative maintenance procedures


Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities
Basic Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Electrical Engineering or related field with 2 years of relevant experience.
Strong technical expertise work ethic and passion for driving innovation through automation
Successful management of projects and processes involving multiple manufacturing areas or plants
Demonstrated ownership and attention to detail in project execution as well as initiative and selfmotivation for learning and progressing projects to completion
Experience in a wide range of engineering skills related to manufacturing including:
3D printing
Manual and CNC machining methods
3D CAD modeling (Autodesk Inventor) and 2D CAD drawings for manufacturing with strong GD&T understanding
Preferred Qualifications:

5 years or more experience working in a manufacturing facility
Handson experience with designing fabricating and implementing mechanical or electrical systems
Salary Range: $77600.00 $116400.00
