You will quickly have the opportunity to work with great businesses and great leaders as they achieve SOX readiness and maintain SOX compliance within their companies supporting them in a manner consistent with the Markel Style.

This position assists with the coordination and execution of SOX compliance efforts for Markel Ventures and its affiliate companies.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ongoing design and execution of the Markel Ventures SOX compliance model as it relates to the Markel Ventures companies
  • Periodic evaluation of risk taking into consideration the impact of any changes in identified risk at Markel Ventures or Markel Group to the existing compliance model
  • Close working relationship with other functional areas to resolve issues and achieve business goals
  • Coordination of the quarterly Management Representation Letter process
  • Coordination of and point of contact for third party auditors as it relates to the Markel Group audit and the standalone audits of the Markel Ventures companies
  • Assistance with acquisition due diligence as requested
  • Continuous improvement of processes

Such activities require demonstrated experience in/with:

  • Current knowledge of the Sarbanes Oxley Act requirements
  • Recent experience with control framework implementations
  • High level of customer service putting the needs of others first
  • Project management
  • Leading crossfunctional teams

Experience Education Certifications:

  • 810 years experience as a SOX compliance professional whether as a consultant in industry or a combination of both
  • Accounting or Finance degree
  • CPA or other applicable certification preferred
