The Superintendent of Schools announces the following positions to support
students in the various summer school programs taking place throughout the FRPS district.
Title: District School Nurse Summer Position
Varied (including float) coverage for field trips field day and in school programs as planning progresses for the safety and health needs of all FRPS students. Other duties as determined by the Director of Nursing or delegee.
Number of nurses hired based on need determination
TIME: TBD
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have a current Massachusetts license to practice as a Registered Nurse (Registered LPNs are invited to apply as well and will be hired based on coverage assessment)
Current certification in CPR/AED and First Aid from a recognized provider e.g. American Heart Association.
REPORTS TO: Site Coordinator/Program Director
Director of Nursing or Delegee
SKILLS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Using the nursing process collaborates with the parent/guardian and student where appropriate to develop and implement an individualized health care plan for the student.
Provides medically prescribed interventions including medication administration (based on state regulations) and nursing procedures and provides nursing care to the chronically ill children on a daily basis
Provides first aid to injured children and staff; provides care of acutely ill children and staff and manages those with communicable diseases
Responds to frequently encountered health issues; providing counseling and crisis intervention when required e.g. adolescent pregnancy substance abuse death of a family member suicide
Responds to child neglect or abuse issues (as required by Massachusetts statute)
Assesses student response to nursing actions in order to revise the database nursing diagnoses and nursing care plan to determine the progress made toward goal achievement; documents pertinent
information in student records or confidential nursing notes
Strong communication skills
Team player
Good attendance
Willingness and ability to float between schools as warranted by Director of Nursing or delegee.
Experience working with Elementary Middle and/or High school students
SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Hourly Stipend rate in accordance with the FRPS Educators Association Contract
