Summary:
Responsible for the overall management of the Information Technology Department the strategic planning of technology systems districtwide and the coordination and supervision of the Safety and Security Services programs that affect the safety security and emergency preparedness of the districts campuses facilities students staff and visitors.
Qualifications/Education:
- Bachelors degree in computer science or related field required
- Two years of experience in supervision and management of an information systems department
- Experience working in a school district setting preferred
- Clear and valid Texas Drivers License

- Knowledge of school safety security and/or law enforcement procedures practices and related standards codes and laws to include Texas School Safety Center and Texas Education Agency (TEA) procedures.

- Skilled in use of relevant securityrelated technology (e.g. security video systems mass notification systems visitor management systems access control etc.)
- Exceptional writing skills particularly in the context of business communication drafting policies procedures operational plans training materials factgathering investigations and afteraction reports.
- Show initiative in seeking solutions to programs and endeavors to create improvements and efficiencies to programs and processes.
- Ability to perform duties remotely and/or on a flex schedule upon approval by superintendent in response to pandemics natural disasters catastrophic events etc. and will be subject to virtual/distance learning policies and procedures as set forth in employee handbook.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Technology and Information Management
- In coordination with campus principals supervise campus IT Support Technincians providing expertise and direction for the information technology department.
- Analyze complex business needs presented by campuses and administrative departments and develop and implement technical solutions.
- Devise develop implement and maintain systems of internal controls emergency and backup procedures proper licensing system upgrades and disaster recovery plans to ensure integrity of information security databases and internal network access control.
- Ensure that all network and workstation backups are performed on a regular basis and district data is restored as needed.
- Develop and oversee implementation and maintenance of security for all systems and networks.
- Install configure maintain and upgrade computers and peripherals network cabling and network peripherals throughout the district. Relocate computer hardware peripherals and equipment as needed.
- Provide technical assistance to users of computers instructional equipment and software to central office and district wide.
- Ensure the installation maintenance troubleshooting and repair of data communications circuits and equipment is completed.
- Oversee technical support between the district curriculum department and school administration.
- Diagnose and repair network connectivity and hardware issues including printers terminals and personal computers.
- Remove old equipment and perform data migration to new machines ensuring old equipment is properly destroyed using set destruction methods.
- Service equipment according to established preventive maintenance schedule. Maintain accurate updated records of preventive maintenance.
- Maintain accurate district inventory of hardware software and other equipment and material at assigned site(s).
- Identify request and control the district inventory of repair parts.
- Develop and administer the information technology budgets in coordination with the Finance Department on documented needs and ensure that operations are costeffective and funds are managed wisely.
- Coordinate the purchase of all computer hardware software and supplies; initiate purchase orders and bids in accordance with budgetary limitations and district policies.
Safety and Security
- Work collaboratively with campus staff and district departments to provide students and staff with high quality safe and productive learning environments.
- Coordinate daytoday operations of Safety and Security Services.
- Coordinate security officers/guards schedules as all district campuses.
- Coordinate district and outside agency response to urgent emergency or safetyrelated situations arising at campuses and other facilities.
- Develop coordinate and implement operational or safety plans for special events.
- Coordinate the regular review and update of district and campus emergency operations plans.
- Coordinate statemandated safety and security audits of campuses and other district facilities.
- Coordinate the districts Safety and Security Committee and/or other related committees as assigned.
- Develop and coordinate drills and tabletop exercises with campuses and/or outside agencies to test emergency reading of various district components and prepare reports concerning regular tests of emergency equipment and emergency procedures drills
- Coordinate and foster relationships between school districts various police and fire departments and emergency management departments.
- Coordinate projects activities or special operations including cybersecurity needed for the prevention of criminal activity affecting district property students or staff members.
- Evaluate and make recommendations for placement or features of security systems hardware and software.
- Work with district staff and public safety personnel on matters affecting safety or of public concern.
Policy Reports and Law
- Implement the policies established by federal and stated law State Board of Education rule and local board policy in the area of information management technology safety and security.
- Compile maintain and file all district physical and computerized reports records and other documents.
- Draft review and revise reports and other communications.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Comply with all district routines and regulations.
- Correct unsafe conditions in any district work area.
- Coordinate requests for records video recordings and other information made pursuant to the Texas Public Information Act or for other authorized purposes.
Other
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Plan staff development training programs to improve job performance.
- Participate in district and campus meetings and special events as assigned.
- Attend regularly scheduled training to maintain proficiency and knowledge of relevant Texas law and current and emerging practices relating to district safety security emergency planning/preparedness investigations relevant technology and the Texas Public Information Act.
- Attend meetings of various district stakeholders to make presentations concerning district safety and security efforts and/or to answer questions concerning specific events occurring within the district.
- Exercise professional judgment in absences; be punctual to work meetings and appointments.
- Respond to afterhours emergencies as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Select train supervise make recommendations relative to assignment retention discipline and recommend the hiring and firing of information technology department personnel.
Equipment Used:
Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals. Hand tools and test instruments for electronic repairs and cable installations; small truck or van when necessary.
Working Conditions:
Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required. While performing the duties of this job the employee is subject to prolonged sitting and standing; regular kneeling/squatting bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting Repetitive hand motion; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; regular walking grasping/squeezing wrist flexion/extension reaching; may climb ladders. Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 44 pounds); occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds and over). Exposure to electrical hazards; occasional prolonged and irregular hours or may be required to be oncall 24 hours a day when urgent or emergency situations arise or when necessary to meet district or department needs; frequent districtwide and campus visits; occasional statewide travel; occasional work in inclement weather. Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; work in a high stress emergency environment.
